Maybe it's just me, but IMO something like this goes beyond just "needing repair" or in "bad shape." To me, something like this is just plain gross.

As much as I try to like that family and stick up for their rights, seeing vehicles left to rot like this is just plain stupid! But I have cars sitting inside just rotting away too. Perhaps they were too busy selling new cars and growing soy beans and corn.

This is the pic that amazes me. They said these are all brand new trucks. In a farming/country community, it's amazing that he would have sat on these rather than discount them to sell at the end of the model year.

We may never know the reasons why or understand. But for sure, this has sure been a great conversation piece for CAR GUYS everywhere.
Possibly the owner has Dementia and just forgot they were there on the farm.
From what I remember, those trucks sold new for around $2000 in central Illinois. I could see maybe holding on to them for a few years then selling them for around $1000 each to less fortunate neighbors.
It's sure gonna be an interesting auction.

Well at those prices, at least we know they will not be in a derby. lol.

I see that the Impala has 1 mile, but what about the Pontiac? Is it also a super low mile car? I don't even see the mileage mentioned for that one.

But, but it has 1 MILE! 1 MILE! It is "brand new!" :taz:
Earlier this year, I saw on CL an identical 1979 Impala wagon with 49K... went for about 4500 I think.

You've got to ask yourself... which wagon would you rather have to enjoy?

I'd rather have that 49,000 mile wagon for $4,500. The 1 mile car will have to have everything inside and out replaced for three or more times as much, to no ones surprise.

Exactly. And once you replace everything-- then what? either you put miles on it or you're stuck with a 5000 lb paperweight.

It will be interesting to watch B-J, ebay, Mecum etc over the next 6-18 months to see how many of these show up again.

He can do whatever he wants with his cars. I don't understand where he got all the money from to keep all these cars. Either he scammed every person that bought a car at his place (asking way too much) or he scammed Chevy, saying the cars had vanished. Either way, I can not believe somebody writes off 10 brand new cars a year, and just forgets about it.
