say what?!?!? I understand that they're nice cars and all. But, I have noticed that many(too many?)BMW drivers think a bit too highly of their cars. If this was a 95 anything else wagon, BMW owners would be going "what?!?!? are they kidding??? THAT much for THAT thing???" Of course, that's what we're all thinking of that Beemer. It doesn't even have a back-back seat! It only seats FOUR people!! What good is running a slalom course with only three friends in the car!!! And then, I've seen videos of BMW's losing traction and crashing too. So, they're not infallible. They do make a good inline six, however. Even a diesel version. One of these would be tolerable if it came with a diesel six. A commuter wagon that way.
Don't know if that's a reasonable price or not, but the fact that it's got some kind of different engine in it (I have no idea what a 'S52' is...) might make it hard to pass smog. If you want a BMW wagon with more power, just look for a 540i...
Being that it is a 1995 it is now exempt from Illinois emissions... Sillynoise no longer does OBDI testing.... HOWEVER.. Many states still do, do OBDI testing....
It looks like a standard 525 iT wagon, but what makes it rare is the 5 speed manual. Not many came that way in North America. One thing is for sure, with a 2.5 litre I-6 this is NOT going to be a fast car, especially loaded with family and gear. It will go fast enough, but it may take time to GET to speed. It is, though, in very nice shape. I have a feeling he needs to drop the price by about 30% though. Older BMWs can cost a BOMB to maintain, and so they depreciate quite quickly.
My parents owned one of these BMW wagons. It was a 95 model that was white with a black interior. If i remember correctly it had the 2.5 liter inline 6. They bought it in late 1996 at the BMW dealer. The car had been used in the 1996 Olympic Games that took place in Atlanta GA. BMW was the official cars used, after the games were over the cars were sold through BMW dealers. Mom and Dad saved a bunch of money over the price of a new one. The warranty was done up as if the wagon was new. If I remember it had just a little less then 10,000 miles on it. They kept it till 2004, and wound up selling to a gentleman that had several 5 series BMWs.
In California, a car needs to be 30 years old before you no longer have to get it smogged. And, unless they've changed the rules recently, older cars need to be smogged for initial registration. OBDI?
