1/4 can easily be rectified. looks like a mostly solid original. Should make a nice wagon for someone. I like it.
Yeah, They could've stopped going out the driveway by jumping off the curb every time! Or the other way around. Looks pretty good, all things considered. Paint it copper based candy apple red and call it "Red Cloud".
That damage almost looks it may have been caused by the rear wheel coming off while the car was moving? Seen a couple where it caused the fuel tank to rupture and the cars went up in flames. All you can do when that happens is hit the gas and on three wheels try to outrun the flames that are chasing you. That is unless you can get the car up on on two wheels Joey Chitwood style.
oh those damn blowouts have had tires pop on several of my cars. on my 91 Taurus, I had to pull over immediately, as the tread had been slapping the bottom of the car. It actually made it it so I had to remove trim from under the doors on the side of the car, because there was no longer a place to connect it to, up by the front wheel well. . It had been that badly smacked up. And, it was just a Taurus, not even a wagon. But that's a long 1/4 panel on that Pontiac. And a lot of damage. it wasn't just one blowout. Now, the tire coming all the way off? only had that almost happen once. On my 77 Aspenwagon, and the front disc brake assembly kept the tire from separating from the car. With drums in back, the car may have done what you're suggesting. And, no, that's not good.
I had the tread separate on Nora, and that is exactly what happened to the bottom of the quarter panel. There was nothing left but a great big hole! Had the tank been there, as it is on a lot of these wagons, there would have been no tank bottom left, either. Quarter inch thick chunks of rubber 8 inches wide by up to a foot long have a way of eating what ever they come into contact with, especially at 70 miles an hour. When I got Nora to the side of the highway, the tire was still holding air, too. Just a wee bit scary was that night.
