460 V8. $1500. Appears to be very nice aside from the dented tailgate. http://bloomington.craiglist.org/cto/3565955438.html
This is an interesting car, for sure! LTD, not Country Squire, but has cornering lamps which were not common at all on the Fords. It also seems to have power windows, and possibly power door locks. I am wondering what other options are present and accounted for, since it seems this one was bought by someone who wanted the comfort and convenience items but not the wood grain that came with the squire. With the 460 and the brake controller, there is a reasonable chance this one has the trailer tow package, and it may even have the 4 wheel disc brake option as well. One thing is for sure, the seller is not being greedy with the asking price, either. Looks like one great deal here.
Might be a bit thirsty for a daily driver, but the price and options are great! I imagine the fuel mileage on this would be around 14 on the highway, and maybe 12 in town. Wonder what the mileage would be with it, pulling an open car hauler + car weighing roughly 6,000 lbs??? A good detail job, replace that faded carpet with dark brown, and a few minutes on that tailgate dent, and this one would be a solid car with less than $2k in it.
Sadly the ad is gone. When I was 15 years old, there was a wagon for sale in Carmel Indiana exactly like this one for $675. When I had enough cash to buy it, it was gone. I took my $800 and put it towards a computer. Then I got the '75 Cutlass Supreme sedan for $100 and it's all downhill from there I would not be surprised at all if this is the exact same wagon. I remember the split seat, thinking as a wagon it should be a solid bench, and I remember the hubcaps as being something a sedan would have, and the 460 would use a lot of gas, and that it was funny, all the other LTD wagons I had seen up until then were woodgrained with hidden headlamps, and how this one was different.
Indiana is a hotspot for demo derbies, hopefully, it's not going to suffer an horrible end such as that.
I hope it doesn't go to the derby. Far too nice for that. Had I any money I would have been taking the couple hours to drive down and check her out. mike
Puh, in 2002, there was a MINT, MINT 1976 Country Squire wagon, loaded to the max at a local Ford dealership, it was on the used bargain lot. Asking price? $975.00!!!!! The elderly original couple traded it in on a new 2002 Crown Victoria! I wanted a clamshell at the time and passed on it. I have never got over passing on that wagon!!!
