I have always liked the 65-67 Sport Wagons just a little better than the same year Vista Cruisers (they loose me in 68 though) And this example is very nice. I have always toyed with the Idea of finding a 65 Sport Wagon with front end Damage and installing a Pontiac Tempest Front Clip and interior, the body lines seem to line up on the 65 cars.
I like your thinking, Jeff. I agree completely. 66/67 Vista Cruisers to me were not all that pretty, especially with the woodgrain pattern down on the lower 1/3 of the body side. The Buick Sportwagons were much more stylish. Starting with the redesign in '68 though, I'd take the Olds.
I tried to get my wife interested in a 1967 Buick around here with that 340 motor, a 4-door LeSabre in blue and white... It's a $2200 car. Not a wagon but would be really cool for her to drive in place of the Durango we sold.
The mom of a friend of mine in school had one of these as her daily driver. It was white with the Riviera road wheels and tan vinyl interior. I remember it had these imitation tooled-leather strips with chrome buckles, on the doors and the seats, if I remember correctly. It was a really sharp car. I thought it was a '67 at the time, but it might have been a '66.
Too bad you were not closer, not only is this one cheaper.... but it's a 2 door. http://www.usedvictoria.com/classified-ad/OBO---1967-Buick-LeSabre_18954439
My mother drove a '65 Wildcat in high school with a fastback roofline. She hated that car because it was so big. When she and my dad got back from their 4 year honeymoon in Bermuda (yes, my parents spent the first four years of their married life on a tropical island, my dad tracked submarines for the Navy), the first thing they did was take the money out of the bank from selling the Wildcat and they bought a new 2-door Valiant with a Slant Six. Then they had a new Volare. Then they adopted me, then they adopted my sister, and it was station wagons until 1992.
