I stay clear of molested cars myself. This wagon was probably born with the 327, the higher horsepower version. But the motor would make me hesitate on buying it. Its someones project.

Id have to see the build sheet but disc brakes were not standard. A option that Caprice could be had with was the Vigilite system. You people young enough to remember these may have seen them on Cadillacs also. Every time youd hit the brakes, a small lamp would lite up two red tiny lights on the back roof. It was to show you if your rear lights were working, same with the turn lights. Youd have lamps on each front fender as well showing the front lamps were working including high beams and turn lights.

Youd think with all the bells and buzzers this car has, it would have the Vigilite System also. I have seen it on a 68 Caprice here which also had a Posi-Traction rear end to go with the 427 it had in it and the factory tach on the instrument panel.

The Cappy seems to have the "fiber optics" on the front fenders, check the picture again, seller mentions "fiber optics".

My Caddy has those lights you mentioned. They're handy. I'm always paranoid my lights aren't working.

That's my Woody for Sale - let's get some facts

I've only posted one time here before. I'm the guy that had the three 1968 Caprice Wagons, this red 396 car, a green 427 and a white 307.

A couple of comments to mull over:

I am NOT a "broker (vulture)" as was suggested above - just a guy who loves 1968 full size Chev's and happened to fall in love with this wagon. My dad bought a new Chev wagon every two years - so it was in my blood.

When I found this car 4 years ago, this car had no motor or trans and was just about to get parted out. I knew it HAD to be saved so I bought it as a rolling chassis, brought it home, found all the parts to get the car back on the road. Since it was a factory original 396 car, I knew it needed to get the right treatment. I didn't drop some crappy old 454 into it - but patiently waited till a correct dated and coded 1968 IV code 325hp 396 came along. Found a correct 1968 dated TH400.

Regarding the posts that suggested the car was bogus and probably had a 327 and had the hideaway headlights "added" - I'm surprised at these comments and suggest you look a little more closely at the picture on the ebay listing which shows the original build sheet which is still attached to the inside of the rear interior panel. Except for possibly the wood wheel, every single option on that car was installed at the factory including the tach, the hideaway headlights and yes - look closely - the fibre optics.

Regarding the price being too high - well I guess it may be too high for some folks - but I don't see many factory loaded big block 9 passenger wagons around here and you sure don't get much for $10k these days - no matter how bad the economy is. The fact is that the high bid on the first listing went to $11,219 - only problem was - that bidder would not follow-through on a second chance offer.

I only want to get $10,500 for the car and at that level, I am losing money car - so if I dont get my price, I'll just pop an old 8 track in the player and cruise.

Finally - I don't mean to offend anyone on this site - but it always seems to be the way these days with the anonymity of the computer - that people trash talk a car without even looking into the facts.

I think it's a very fair price for a very nice car, and wish I had the money!!
Gas was around 50 cents a gallon, then.
    Car listed for around $4500.
Granted it's not new, but do the math!!

It was me that posted the remarks. 10K does seem like alot of money for a ca5r thats not only been changed to suit the seller but needs extra work to make right that will cost extra thousands of dollars. By the way the ads is/was you are seemlingly trying to get out of the car what youve put into it. As old cars go you never get what you put into it back. I have scads of reciepts for my 62 Buick. Ive sunk many thousands of dollars into cars over the years knowing full well id never get that back if I were to sell. Also it is what it is, its a wagon, isnt a convertable, not a SS Camero, not a Chevelle or Mustang or even a Nova. Its a stationwagon. A mommy mobile, a grocery getter or a soccer team hauler. Traditionally wagons dont hold value. Except for the 57 Nomad of course. And while your car is nice its no 57 Nomad. It takes a speical person to want a wagon. They just arent desireable cars to most people. Sorry man, but it is what it is and for what your asking for it, I just think its way overpriced. IMO

Welcome to the madness Dave! Maybe one day the market will turn where wagons are more broadly appreciated and sought after raising values. The 68 model would be a good candidate in my opinion amongst different CE's of that time frame. A doctor's wife in our neighborhood back in the day had a 68 SS427 convertible, think it was an Impala though, it was a dark blue with a white top, rallye wheels, beautiful car. Hideaways on it from what I remember. (y)

Another comment on the value of this wagon - remember this car has a rebuilt 396 engine and almost mint original interior - what's that worth?

Also - that rear sway bar is NOT a factory installed option - one of the previous owners added that and the wood wheel.

If any serious parties out there want to buy a genuine big block loaded Caprice please contact me at cowbaykid@shaw.ca

    Cheers to all
