I think the ad will get flagged soon. As it should. No way ANYone would sell that car for 500 bux. Unless there are a TON of things we can't see. I guess we could speculate forever about this car but I just don't believe it. I'm going with phoney baloney.:D

If it does turn out to be for real, and nobody from the forum gets it, then we shouldn't consider ourselves wagon lovers. What a steal if its legit. I hope we find out what's going on with that beauty.

My Custom Cruiser is from San Diego.:)
I could see that being sold for 500 bucks out there, nothing that special to them left coasters. Probably a donation for the tax write off and not even worth taking to the auction.
Seems that they rarely sell museum quality cars , probably will take and sell anything they can get.

    From their site;

"The museum has a policy of selling cars (occasionally from the permanent collection but primarily non-museum quality cars) and motorcycles. These sales are subject to an open and fair bidding process and are either sold at auction or on an equal access site like eBay. Please check back because the offerings change based on our current donations.

If you have questions about vehicle sales, please contact Michael Conroy at 858-692-4244 during business hours."

Call that guy and tell him not to do stuff like that if he did.:biglaugh:

Here's the e-mail I got. Sounds like they are going to alot of trouble for a $500 car. I'm not sure what to think.
    Hey Everyone

I am emailing all of you to let you know that the Chrysler that the San Diego Automotive Museum is selling has generating a lot of interest. I have received quite a few emails about the car so I am sending this email out to let everyone know that I will be available to show the car tomorrow (Tuesday, November 15, 2011). I will be showing the vehicle at 2:00pm and from there we can see who is still interested in the vehicle.

Before the vehicle is sold, we will be replacing the valve cover gaskets and getting the car smogged. So it will not be available until next Wednesday at the earliest. If you are interested in seeing the vehicle please email me back and I will send you information on where to meet me.

Thank you all for your time.

So the ad is apparently quite legitimate.

We're all surprised at the seemingly very low asking price. But we may have to take into account our perspective. Most of the rest of the world does NOT see station wagons the way frequenters of this site do. My guess is that they think that $500 is all it's worth. If it really is in as good a shape as it appears to be, and if they had done any real research, they might have discovered that they could have gotten several times their asking price.

I still don't really believe it....

...come view the car but it won't be avaible till next week after we dump some $$ into it for gaskets and smog..???

WHO puts a car up for sale this cheap and then says we are gona fix it before it's sold? Does this meen the price will go up, or is this some BS way to rip some one off.

If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but this smells bad to me.

I have a feeling they might ask for offers. Maybe a sealed bid type of auction and the low price was put there to spark interest.

Yeah, Fat...I'm with you. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong.
Seems legit, but....if the car is anything like it seems to be, I can't believe it. If it was REALLY for sale for the $500 listed.....it would be gone. But, no, we have to see who sticks...and, then....and THEN....well....let's see who will pay the most for it....gee....seems only the fair way to do it. What ever happened to first come first served? Don't snow me with the fix it, smog it BS!

I agree. If they only want $500 for it why would they put valve cover gaskets in it and smog it. It doesn't make sense. Then again if it is really being sold by the San Diego Museum it should be easy to check on previous sales. Since I'm 5 hours away I'm not going to drive all that way just to find out they are taking bids. I e-mailed them my phone number and just got an e-mail. If they had called me and said yes $500 buys it I would've wired them the money and hooked up my trailer and headed to San Diego. I do hope I hear how this ends.

But you got an e-mail with a cell number in the signature! The name and phone number match those on the museum's cars for sale page

It looks like the museum holds its auctions in National City. Note the phone number is the same.

I'm guessing it's going to be an auction with a starting bid of $500.

Doesn't anybody on the forum live close enough to check it out, if for no other reason but to flip it. Spend $500 to own it, a day to detail it and you could easily get $3000 for it, if not more. I'll take that kind of return on investment all day long.

If I was still down that way, I would.....

Can't remember if we have any real active members from down that way - you would think we would. Way too far for TBirdsps to go look at it.....about 250 miles for him, one way.
