73 Grand Safari

Geeze, KK...he just sent me 5 MORE emails with pix....must be a total of a hundred pix! I have TWELVE emails with 6, 7 or more pix each! I would have to hunt through and find the pertinent ones that show the body rust. I will do that when I have time. Thanks for the offer!

 

So far I have 14 emails full of pix and I'm not sure he's done yet!
For me, one good pic of each side would have been enough.

 

I rec'd the photos as well and I'm bummed out! I agree with your comments on the rust issues SF, and also admire Jeff's honesty in the way he presented the car through the pictures he sent. I was willing to live with the lack of options as this particular model is one of my favorites, however I am not comfortable with this car due to it's rust issues. Thanks SF and CE for your offers to view this car for me, it's much appreciated. If anyone comes across a '73 Pontiac Safari for sale in the future, please keep me in mind.

 

No problem, Heritage...anytime. Yes...the guy shows totally honest pix...all one million of them. It's a shame. The car looked so good in the original pix. Even so, being a Wisconsin car, I had my doubts. My doubts are now confirmed. You are wise to walk away from this one. I feel bad for Jeff, the seller, because it is obvious that he loved this car. It is difficult to see the faults in your own car. Especially when they appear slowly over the years. Still....when you look at the rust....the thought of $4500 should not have entered his mind.

 

I sent one of the emails to KK that showed some of the rot. It should be enough to discourage most people. I don't want to deluge KK with a million pix.

This seller sounds great considering all the other sellers who don't respond, give extra pics, info, to lazy to sell what they are trying to sell. I kinda feel bad for the guy because he is honest and by the sounds of things the cared for wagon does have ishues

 

Yeah...I feel bad for him, too, Tedy. He just isn't seeing the problems, apparently. But, as bad as I feel for him, I also feel responsible to report what I see to our wagon family members. If one of them was to buy the car from seeing the original pix they would be devastated when they went to pick the car up.

 

How funny, I received all of those emails as well with the pics. I think I got like 20 emails. lol. I will say I appreciate the effort. I agree with you Silverfox... I love the car, but the rust is a turn off to me... the car is actually much rustier than my 72 Kingswood Estate (but my car is a southern car, so that make a difference I guess).

Well one thing that I noticed is that the car really not a Grand Safari, its a base level Catalina Safari with the woodgrain option (woodgrain was optional on all of the big Pontiac wagons in '73). Look close at the door panels, seats (clearly are Catalina) and even on the front fender it has Catalina badges. It also has the custom steering wheel.

One thing that was strange is that it appears to have the Grand Safari (Grand Ville) grill. The Catalina had more pronounced horizontal lines, whereas the Grand Ville (Grand Safari) had more of a egg-crate grille. I am guessing the grill was changed in the car at one point.

Nice car, but with the rust and only being a base Safari was a little disappointing. That does though kinda explain its lack of options.

Thanks, KK. Yeah, moto...the underside looks decent. It looks, to me, though, that it has been re-sprayed with undercoat. I could be wrong but it looks too good and too new to me. In any case...the body is on its way out.

 

Looking at that rust sure makes me glad I live in Arizona.

 

Anyone else besides me notice that it is actually a Catalina Safari and not a Grand Safari? Aparently the grill has been changed out at one time or another, but the car is a Catalina wagon....

Yeah, the floors and frame look good, but thats some bad rust around the wheel wells and the spare tire area is looking haggard as well. Dont look like anything that could not be repaired though.

I love the color combo!

 

Get repair out of your head, 72King. Your car is decidedly better than this one anyway.

 

I think he's at least $2,000 overpriced on the car for that rust!
