http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/cto/3452572764.html Up for sale is an ultra rare 1957 Pontiac Star Chief Custom Safari. This was the step up from the Chevy Nomad. The car was recently discovered and purchased from a neighbor whose deceased husband owned this baby. The car has been parked in their garage for many years and is in need of restoration. This is a solid foundation for a restoration. All parts are there, plus extra. Original Huntington Park California black plates. No motor or transmission, this is a roller. I have a high performance newly built 350 sbc that can go with this car if you are interested, but does not come with the car at the price listed. Please do not email, i am listing this car for my neighbor. Call Kai with any questions at 530 412-3351. $11,500 obo I don't have any additional photos. If you are interested, please come check out the car in person. Located/garaged in South Lake Tahoe.
No motor or trans at that price. No wonder the price seemed reasonable at first. Teej - I was on the H.A.M.B. last night, and in a thread about wagons, someone posted a pic of your '58 - from before you bought it. Was in a driveway with 'for sale' sign in the left window.
Jeepers, I'm darned glad I bought mine 31 years ago for the whopping sum of $1,200. It was in about this condition body wise except the hood and front fenders were bent - but, it had the original running powertrain and with a front fender/hood swap from a hdtp I had it was on the road in a matter of a day. I paid $200 for the hdtp complete and with what I got out of it after I had taken what I needed, I got my Safari for net zero dollars. That even covers the cost for fuel and travel meals to go and pick it up.
That's funny! Yep, that is one of the pictures I saw in the original ad. Doesn't look a whole lot different now, but it's got a whole lot more miles on it. Being a '58 fan, I recognize most of those cars from my own searches. I think I may even have parts from that one car.
I find that price very reasonable, unless there are rust issues I can't see here. Most people change the engine/tranny anyway. As for you Safari57, if we were 31 years younger, I'd jump on that deal. Sadly our odometers have turned over a few times also. Keep in mind, I could have bought little deuce coupes for $10,000 31 years ago. Now the owners want that much to let me walk in their garages to look!
