actually, a few days ago! There's one of these somewhere around my neighborhood putting around. I think it may be the same year, but in a dark aqua color. Don't look like it's been messed around with though....

I do get your point - they are pretty rare overall.

Just the other night, actually, in a bad dream. I was being chased by a demon, and he was driving one of these!

I think he's a little nutty on that $2300 starting price. In current condition, this car is worth $1000.

You probably got away though since in its prime the Mercury Lynx was probably much slower than its namesake feline!

Looking at this shows how much cars have come in the last 30 years. This was certainly an ok car for its time, but by current standards it's not safe (picture a collision with a Hummer) and the gas mileage would not even by that great given what current compacts can do.

I believe the elusive Mercury Lynx is a known delicacy of the much larger Hummer... :biglaugh:

The coupe and sedan versions of these were everywhere in my high school parking lot. I really...really...disliked these. Rough, loud, slow...it amazed me that the Escorts were the best selling cars in America for years....

Since when was fuel milage an issue, in this forum? If a Hummer ran head-on into any vintage wagon, I doubt you would call any of them safe. It doesn't hardly matter if you're in a Lynx or '59 Impala. Hummers have no business being on a public road, anyway. Such vehicles belong on a battle field.
The Lynxes were basic transportation which were simple enough to maintain. One could eye candy them out:

I had an 81 Lynx station wagon with a 4 spd manual, and it was pretty peppy! Mine was two tone, dark brown on the bottom (not woodgrain) and cream on the top. Not all that fancy and really pretty reliable considering. I ended up giving it to my old high school shop for a $200 tax receipt in 1992. Wasn't much of a chick magnet though... :scratchchin:

This picture reminds me, who at Ford thought it was a good idea to put the horn on the turn signal stalk. that's as bad as GM making door glass that doesn't roll down. :banghead:

Once you own a vehicle having an airbag, you'll know why it's better to have the horn button placed onto the signal lever.
    A Hog magnet, maybe?
Wonder why they had to go use a museum piece, instead of a Bondo heap

Owned lots of cars with air bags, the only car with the horn on the stalk was a 78 Fairmont with no air bag.
