Nice looking car, but the engine code and the engine description do not match, M-code (per the VIN number posted) is a 350 2bbl Olds engine, but the engine description lists it as a 6.6 Liter that would be a 400 Pontiac, and in the actual description the seller states "runs well like a Olds 350 should, no shakes) That and no engine compartment Pictures has me scratching my head alittle.

Also a No A/C car, with the optional Bucket seat interior, very seldom seen on a 4-door Grand Lemans, let alone a wagon! Options I see are AM/FM Radio, Cruise, Rear Window Defroster, along with the Full Rally Gauge Package with Tach and clock. I would have to do some checking to see if the floor shift and center console were available in the Grand Lemans 4-doors and wagons, the two 4-door 76-77 Grand Lemans with Bucket seats I have seen both did not have a console, and were Column shift cars. But that doesn't mean it wasn't available.
The car was obviously stored inside as the red interior plastic of the era just turns pink, and then to dust if exposed to the suns rays for any leanth of time. It would be interesting to see the PHS on this car. Or even an engine Bay Shot!!!!! The door panels look like 73-75 4-door Grand Am panels with the pull straps.
Glad I have no room or $$$ otherwise I would be tempted.

So far good price. Great looking wagon!
I love it and where I'm going don't need AC. Of all the vehicles I owned in Illinois only the last few had AC and that was only because it was on the trucks and van when I bought them. Still rarely used it.
I love the wind blowing thru my hair...........:tiphat: Hairs!

Did a little research, the M Code engine in 76 was a Pontiac 350 2bbl, not the Olds 350.
Reread the sellers description, he does say "doesn't shake runs well like an old (not Olds) 350 should. My bad on the Olds engine confusion. But the seller should not list it as a 6.6 liter 400 CI engine.
The Bucket seat do look to be the non break over type that would be found in a 4-door. I would look at the rear 1/4's very closely though, seller mentions the 1/4's were "repainted only" but the missing rear wheel well trim usually indicates a rust issue.
Nice looking Pontiac, just odd enough to interest me, once again glad I do not have any $$$$ hope it finds a good home.

I didn't realize there were more photos. Nice ad. Personally I like this one and don't care whether the front seats tilt or not. Impractical if they do.
To me the 350 is a plus over the gas sucking 400.

I believe the Grand Lemans of '76-77 did use the same interior as Grand Ams did after their discontinuation. Same with buckets and console floor shifter, Grand Ams came that way in 2 and 4 door and I think the Grand Lemans was able to as well - don't quote me on that though!

Neat car, but I agree on checking those rear quarters closely! Too bad the tach is bad, not easy to come by a new working one.

The buckets and console in the Grand LeMans Safari wagon were in fact a GM factory option. Here's the 1976 brochure. (What's especially interesting in the brochure photo is no interior window controls at all.)

Wow, that is in really nice overall condition.
I agree with Jeff on all points. I always wished mine had the buckets and console shift.
I will be curious to see what this finally sells for.

(The blue one in the brochure is exactly how mine once looked.)

I didn't realize I could zoom in. Makes it nice to see. Still I don't notice the bondo work. I'd check it close if I was really interested in buying.

Apparently sold. Obviously repainted and the rear end is missing the chrome wheel well moldings. Hope the new owner is happy. :yup:

    1976 Pontiac Lemans

    Hello everyone,

I am a newbie and I am also the guy who bought the wagon in the thread. I have had many rides including a number of wagons but I have never seen one of these with buckets and console. I simply could not pass up the opportunity to buy the knowing I would likely never see another one, particularly one for sale locally. It is definitely not perfect. It is a 350 and not the 400 the ad listed. The owner indicated the carb was rebuilt but it seems to run rich. The car is certainly rare and deserves some attention to bring to the next level. Any assistance in locating parts and pieces is greatly appreciated! I will keep you posted as we move along. Thank you all for the chance to share my passion.
