Only power windows could make this CS look sweeter! http://www.ebay.com/itm/1970-Ford-C...-awesome-/321544661899?_trksid=p2054897.l4275
What I like: It's a '70 Country Squire. 429 2V (great low end torque) AM/FM Stereo & AC Right door dummy remote mirror Overall condition What I don't like so much: A few blemishes, especially the damaged RF surround rail. Frayed seat belt (how does that happen in 55K miles?) No pictures of underneath. I'd peg its value at $6K - $8K -- that's with the underneath in average condition; I'd say higher if it were exceptional. I'm betting it goes for more, though.
Here's the real price. http://www.uniquemankato.com/1970-Ford-Country-Squire-Wagon-Mankato-Minnesota-56001/5237412 1970 Ford Country Squire 429 Wagon Our Price $9,990 - See more at: http://www.uniquemankato.com/1970-F...-Minnesota-56001/5237412#sthash.SUNZeYxY.dpuf
Looks like the underneath is in what I would rate as well above average (average these days being something close to shot to hell). It's very solid and presentable -- but far from flawless -- as is. So the question is do you pay $10K (very thirsty) to use it as is for a daily driver or local cruise & casual show car, pay $10K and slap another $10K - $15K into it to make it a serious show car, or hold out to find a cheaper example that hopefully won't take much more to restore than this one? Seems to me this is for the serious '70 CS fanatic with $10K to spend only. Are there any more out there?
Notice the rust bubbles on the left rear quarter panel. I'd be cautious of an early '70s Ford wagon from the snow belt. Rust never sleeps!
I missed those. Good eye. I'd heard that Minnesota was a good source for cars because they don't use salt there. Perhaps that's wrong. Of course, I didn't see anything that said this car is originally from that state. In any case, this car will require a few bucks to put to rights. In addition to rust repair, the surround rails need to be restored (the left fender rail needs to be repaired or replaced), and it looks like there's a dent in the left fender that also needs repair. I have to revise my earlier estimate downward. $10K is not a realistic price -- even for the fanatic. I have to wonder whether the high bidder would have actually completed the sale had there not been a higher reserve.
From the Minnesota Dept. Of Transport web site (referring to the 2012-2013) winter: "Statewide, MnDOT used 304,555 tons of salt and 44,327 tons of sand compared to 154,072 tons of salt and 26,091 tons of sand the previous year (2011-2012)." I've heard the same thing about Saskatchewan - they don't salt their roads - but I'd have to see it to believe it!
