Sounds like it needs a lot of love; it could be really bad, or a diamond in the rough...

Sure looks tempting for a Poncho fan.

Be forewarned; these cars are big...about 218" long! (~5537mm)

    1966 PONTIAC WAGON V8 see * below - $2500 (COLFAX)

bfnpg-3518110641@sale.craigslist.org[?] I PURCHASED THIS CATALINA WAGON FROM A PRIVATE PARTY 45 YEARS AGO IN SAN JOSE, TO USE AS A "PROPERTY SHOWING" CAR IN MY REAL ESTATE BUSINESS--MOVED TO THE SIERRA FOOTHILLS IN 1983 AND REALIZED THAT I WAS NOT GOING TO BE HAPPY WITH 7 OR 8 MILES PER GALLON, BECAUSE IT WAS NOW A TEN MILE TRIP TO GO "ANYWHERE".-- BOUGHT A VW TO COMPENSATE FOR THE DIFFERENCE !
THEN PARKED THE WAGON UNDER A BIG OAK TREE ON OUR 5 ACRES---AND IT HASN'T MOVED SINCE ! ! ! SPEEDO IS ACCURATE AT 78,500 MILES.
THIS A GREEN, 9 PASSENGER WAGON WITH AIR AND POWER STEERING, AND ROLL UP WINDOWS. THE HEADLINER WAS RIPPED APART BY MY BOXER SHORTLY BEFORE MOVING HERE AND RATS HAVE FOUND A GREAT HOME FOR PRETTY MUCH DESTROYING THE SEAT COVERS.
NO RUST PENETRATING ANYWHERE--TIRES MOST LIKELY HAVE GONE SOUTH (THEY ARE ALL FLAT) ALL CHROME AND ROOF RACK ARE INTACT AS WELL AS THE INTERIOR DOORS--HAS ORIGINAL AM RADIO--4 BARREL CARB--AND ALL INTERIOR HANDLES AND, KNOBS, AND CHROME PARTS, VENTS, ETC. THERE IS STILL "CLEAN" OIL SHOWING ON THE DIPSTICKS
ALTHOUGH IT COULD BE USED FOR A PARTS CAR, IT WOULD BE A DYNAMITE CLASSIC IF TOTALLY RESTORED--HOW LONG HAS IT BEEN SINCE YOU HAVE SEEN ONE OF THESE "ANYWHERE" ???----- We started the price at $3500 ** we will be reducing the price by $100 per week until sold ** CALL ME AT 530-637-1661

What a shame that he parked it outside on the ground and under a tree. Looks too good for sitting out for 30 years.

This would be a real nice Poncho to redo. Solid black plate california car with the perfect color. I can only imagine what the light blue color would look like in Base/Clear Wow! That will make someone a very sharp ride. Nice body! (y)

389 would have been standard for this year, but you could have ordered it with a 421. (Not that this one has it, but you could have..)

thanks teej, i was looking up engine options and didnt have much luck.
That's good to know. With his comment about the low mpg it would be safe to say if the engine is the original it would be the 389 or 421

    Most likely a 389.......

These were the days when 'horsepower' was king. Anybody remember an ad from 1966 that touted the MPG of a vehicle?

The 421 option on the wagons would be fairly limited. It would also have appropriate badging on the fender and the fan guard. I'd bet dollars to donuts that it's a 389.

The 400 wasn't available yet and the only other option was a 326 for the A bodies. They also had an OHC 6 for the A bodies.

A quick way to tell is to look for a "transfer lug". Basically a small pyramid that is cast into the block, rear passenger side if I remember correctly. That was a standard way to identify blocks with displacement bigger than 389/400 for many years. Not sure if I have a picture of one but I'll look.

The guy is not marketing it correctly. He needs to clean it up, and then take much better pics, out in the sunshine, and not sitting amongst a bunch of leaves. I think I'll drop him a line.....
