If this helps, I need A/C Support Bracket Rear Compressor Brace The part numbers (out of the shop manual) are 2886 (bracket) and 2889 (brace)
Those are just the basic part numbers that describe what the part is, but won't get you the specific part you need. The full part number will be something like D5AF-2886-AA or something to that effect. Even with that part number it might be hard to find one based on that alone because most people won't know the part number of the part in their hand. Your best bet might be a junkyard if you can find one with older cars. Ebay is another option, but you'll have to use multiple searches. If you can find out if it was the same bracket on different vehicles that might help. Knowing which engine is in your car would be helpful too.
Thank You for the information. We found the front one on EBAY that "almost" fits, all but one bolt. The rear I have not been able to locate yet. The Engine is the optional for 77' 400 C.I Clevland. The Shop Manual States the 351 Windsor and the 400 use the same mounts.
The 400 is just the 400. There is no Cleveland after it. Are you sure it isn't the 400 and 351M that share the same bracketry? They are externally identical. The 351W is a completely different engine although it is possible they made brackets that fit both. Looks like this is at least what it is supposed to look like. This is a 1977 Country Squire with a 400.
Well. This is the page from the 1977 shop manual. Lists compressor installation 351/400 Engine. They both used this same diagram. Is why I purchased that bracket as it looks exactly the same.. The b racket in your pic is the one we need yes.
Hard to be 100% sure, but I think this is the correct bracket for your car. https://www.ebay.com/itm/3622311292...2sZJrMwumNUrvbOmxI47FFWA==|tkp:Bk9SR9SCmZueYw
It's definitely a better bracket, given that an idler pulley's not needed. Unfortunately, though, the rear mounting bracket's still missing. What you've got there is the 351 Cleveland block punched out to 400 cubic inches of displacement
No, what he has is a 400. The 400/351M have a taller deck height than the 351C. The 351M was developed from the 400 by destroking it after the 351C went out of production because Ford did not have enough capacity in that displacement with just the 351W.
KevinVarnes, thank you very much for the link. We purchased the part. I hope it fits. Seller does have a 30-day return policy though so at least we'll get our money back if it doesn't. Fingers (and toes) crossed!
VintagePartSource Parts and Services for Antique, Vintage and Classic Cars and Trucks Hubs found this website. I imagine it's already been mentioned on the Forum somewhere. An amazing number of resources. For 125 dollars they will even try to source a part for you, although I think that's kind of extreme unless you have an ultra-rare car.
It's getting to the point that those older cars cannot be found everywhere 'locally.' So buying and shipping cross-country is beginning to be the norm. However, I have not run into or heard of a service that gets you the parts for a few.
It blows my mind that there were so many 1977 Country Squires made yet finding parts is such a bear. I guess they were crushed and sent to landfills? A case of something once common that has become a rarity. I can't recall seeing ANY '70's, '80's, or '90's wagons on the road in recent years (and I imagine earlier wagons spend their time at car shows).
In your case, if the bracket's from a Squire or a Mercury, it doesen't matter, as long as it's from a similar M-series block casting and AC Delco compressor. In which case, a Detroit boneyard might be your best bet. I used to shop at the following, decades ago: https://www.instagram.com/holbrookautoparts/ Unfortunately, they seem to have whippersnappered to the point where they're not bothering with vintage, despite having plenty of room for it. But then again, website appearances could be deceiving. I couldn't find any e-mail adress in their impressum. But, you could still connect, using either Facebook or Instagram. You could also consult a genuine Ford or Mercury dealership where there's a slight chance that they might still have old stock sitting on their shelf, given that this wasn't a typical replacement part that would wear out. That site you posted who demand 125 bucks up front only lists junkyard adresses. There are still private junkyards scattered across the country who will eventually carry what you're looking for and you basically still have a couple months to look
Success! We found the rear compressor brace at Turner's Auto Wrecking in Fresno, CA. It is being shipped out and should arrive at the latest, 1/16. A/C support bracket coming via Ebay, 1/19 at the latest. Soon our realization of working AC should come into fruition. ;
