The transmission on my 84 olds custom cruiser is stock. its been rebuilt, but when you go on drives over 30 mins unless you come to a stop comming off of the high way it keeps you in the high gear that you were in for the high way. it waits a bit no matter how hard you push the throttle then switches. it also jumps to a higher gear when you push the pedal down fully trying to go up hill. is this normal for some wagons? if it is wrong how do i fix it?
Not normal. But, I wouldn't know what's wrong. TV cable or linkage out of adjustment? Or??? Being an 84 have you checked the vacuum supply to the tranny as well? Probably both are issues.
Might be in need of an adjustment, so maybe start looking for a reputable tranny shop. I would suggest starting something you could do yourself, which is changing the fluid. It is normal for the tranny to "downshift" when you floor it. You mean it jumps to a lower gear, right, not higher? And the engine revs up? That's for passing and rapid acceleration.
You have the 200R4 right? I have had this and other problems. There is a kit that helps solve these problems. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...80029356936&sspagename=STRK:MEWAX:IT&viewitem= For me I put an external oil cooler on and it seemed to help. I don't know why but it did. Me I love my 200R4. I will either keep it and put a manual shift kit in it or do a manual transmissin swap.
what happends is it stays in the high gear from your cruisen speed you were doing. i.e. 40. if i slow down to 20 and turn when i hit the gas it stays in the gear for 40. and the motor chugs. Ive noticed it only happeneds if you dont come to a complete stop. it also only happends after approximatly 30 mins of driving. could it be over heating? ive tried adjusting the TV cable but that didnt help. the transmission has been rebuilt recently (2 yrs ago).
