Steering Sleeve Puller?

    All,
    I am trying to figure out how to pull the upper steering wheel sleeve on my
    66 Mercury Colony Park. It appears from the shop manual that this
    requires a tool that both wraps around the sleeve and then has
    a set of bolts and opposing "crank" like a more traditional steering
    wheel puller.
    Question: Does this tool exist anymore? And if not, how can I get
    this sleeve off without banging it up?

    Got any pics of column?
    One of what the tool looks like would be cool.

    They do have steering wheel pullers that you can put legs on to grab stuff down lower for later models, may be able to jury-rig something up.

    My first thought was to use a universal/right and left handed BFH but you said you don't want it banged up.:D

    Turn Signal Cover Puller

    Here's a pic from the 66 shop manual. You can see what they call a turn signal cover puller. Thanks for the help here. It looks like something I might be able to rig if I can't find the tool anymore.

    I can't see this being hard to locate ( I have one ), it's just a differnt attachment for the slide hammer. Take your diagram to a auto parts store, I'll bet the will be able to help no problem other than maybe wait a day or so for the part to come in. I wonder if a bearing puller mite do the job also..??

    Thanks. I'll check that out. I am now pursuing slide hammer attachments, so thanks for pointing that out. It looks like that one is hard to come by, but I'll try the local auto parts store. If you want to part with yours I'm all ears!

    Find a fender washer that is the circumference of the the outside diameter of the bushing and cut it down the middle.

    attache another fender washer that is less than the inside bore of the bushing to the end of the slide hammer

    and put it into the and past the bushing

    put each halfwasher into the hole

    and lay it on top of the smaller washer and then pull the slide ..... it might help to magnetize the washer first.

    It should work with patience

    NOTE: a fender washer is large and flat but has a small (as opposed to the common washer with a big hole) center hole that would fit the slidehammer end
