I've been working through some ideas for a nice graphic logo to represent the forum.

Here are some color variations of the script idea:

Here is my first idea for working it into the current header graphics.

I've asked Stefan if he would like to continue with the current header or move in a new direction, and he thinks maybe its time for something new. I think all of us should have some input and discussion in what we would like to see.

I would also like to do up a standard size web banner so that those of us who have their own sites can have a nice graphic link to help spread the word.

I've never been artistic, but I've done some user interfaces calling the transparency functions in some of my programming work. Obviously the ads pay the freight for the site, so it might be useful to provide a transparent background colour area to use complementary or contrast colours for the advertisers? I'm sure Stef has more insight on that than I do.

Wood or metallic surface colours are neutral visually, and the rest of the colour spectrum can change with fads. Don't know if that adds or detracts to the discussion. Just parameters that I'd take into consideration.

For the record, I like the wood/metal version.

I like the top one, your first rendition the best. But can we PLEASE loose the damn Taurus. They are the biggest piles of crud cars and I do not think they should get the respect of a banner ad. If you want to use a modern wagon, use one that has class, that is right a Buick Roadmaster! The last wagon produced with wood grain and it has the envy of all wagons, the Vista Roof.

Its got a nice look, but I would prefer to use genuine wagon woodgrain for the background. I need a closeup photo of a light colored wood panel.

Yes!! :D That image is just an example.
Stefan gave the go ahead to work on a fresh new header design. Here is where I would like to hear ideas and opinions.
The current graphic cycles through 1 of 4 images each time the page is refreshed. One idea I have is to show a restoration project going from a rusty beater to a beautiful head-turner.

The banner ad would be a new design unto itself. Smaller, like the ads displayed between the forum header and the forum body.

Looks like your Roadies have the lighter woodgrain. Can you get me a nice closeup?

Variation 2 - Big Logo, Featured Pics

I like the idea of pics that sum up what it is that we love about wagons.
    Gotta love those dogs.

Nominations for featured pics to have in rotation?

I love this. I agree with Stephan that we could use an appearance update. I like your 'woodgrain' box with the cars on both sides, Steve, and I like the idea of rotating 'resto' project photos. Dr. Smith's should be one of 'em for sure, and maybe something from Norman. Well - there's lots to choose from. Maybe they can be 'plugged in' on a rotating basis......

Oh...just had an idea that you maybe want to try out.....

In the woograin 'box', there's a silver 'chrome' outline. Instead of the 'chrome' look, try a light 'woodgrain trim' outline....sorta like the woodgrain and trim on a Country Squire.

I like that idea. I have thought of it, but have not found a quality image to work with yet. I wasn't happy with my attempts to create a wood look from scratch in Photoshop. Someone have a good pic of this straight on view?

I like the lighter woodgrain or the last one in blue maybe it could rotate in different colors?

Do a Google image search for 'woodgrain' or 'woodgrain texture' - a bunch of stuff will come up.
