Any ideas how much that might cost? It's about 2500 miles. I know I can request quotes, but wanna get an idea before I mess with that. Are we talking less than $1k, or more?

Coming from CA to IL cost me $1,100. Three different times and all three were GM clamshell wagons

Based on the math, that's .55 per mile, so I'd be looking at $1375.

I can get a one-way ticket for $270 and drive it home. Depending on gas mileage, I'd be looking at $700-$1000 in gas. Plus the risk of it breaking down. Could be a fun trip though. I could sleep in the back, and save on hotel costs. Hmmm....

That can't even be a consideration. Assuming you would come across on I-40 there are too many stretches of desolate area where no help is available, and that applies from Bakersfield all the way to Arkansas. Likewise, for gas stops as they can be more than 100 miles apart.

If at all possible, you should consider having it shipped. I've made that trip several times, both ways, in the last five years and it is no fun.

I shipped my Safari from Wisconsin to Oregon last December. Cost around $1,100. I used a shipping broker, who was only able to find me one company going on that route. If I ever ship again, I think I will pay more money to use a direct shipper, without going through a broker. Broker got $200 of the $1,100 for basically doing nothing. And the shipper actually ended up DRIVING the wagon (not trucking it) the last 200 miles.

There are good, reliable smaller carriers around, who use a HD P/U with an enclosed gooseneck trailer to haul 1-3 cars. Send a PM to member Bigbarneycars. I know he has a guy he uses.

They drove the car 200 miles..... for just that very reason I would spend the extra $. KK, was lucky as he did get his car undamaged,..... there are some things and this is one where, you don't go for the low bid, shop around as you will get what you pay for.

Thanks for the input guys. Definitely will not be flying in, driving it home, if I decide to do this. Wish this thing weren't on the other side of the country.
