I've had to load long boards and even angle iron inside the cargo area, leaning across the back seat top or over the front bench seat top, poking through the front passenger window.

I'm using the 1982 Ford Fairmont Velour/suede upholstery from a 4-door sedan, including the thicker backrest cushion. They mount differently, meaning that I have two options:

    A) duplicate the original - add a longer flap and glue it, like it was, OR!!

    B) add a flap (sewn like above), but make it double faced vinyl and just a bit longer, but screw it into the frame of the seat top, and flip it over the top of the seat when I'm carrying longer stuff inside. I can just get an 8 foot board inside. When it's not in use, I just snap to the bag, so it doesn't flop around. The dirty side is underneath out of sight!

The new front buckets recline so that's not an issue anymore.

    What do y'all think?

Not a bad idea at all. My front buckets called a "Flight Bench" by Ford is really buckets with built in armrests with a console between them. I think yours is the same. My seats don't recline all the way flat.

Mine are separate. So I could push the front passenger one forward. I usually take the trailer for real long stuff, or rope them to the roof rack, but sometimes you're close to store or the used steel yard, and figure 'now is the best time' and in it goes! (and I thought women were impulse-buyers - shhhh! Don't admit it!) :D

Why did I think they weren't? You talked about vinyl issues, way back? I assumed (a$$ of u and me?). Mea culpa.

I finally figured out that my new seats came from a 1982 Zephyr 4-door. I got the build sheet from one of the seats and tucked it away for future reference, in a safe place - mainly safe from me. I found it this morning. :D

What you see in the picture are cheap covers as the vinyl is pretty bad.

Can you sew? I'm going to be reupholstering mine next year, making patterns to go back to stock size and shape, just new foam. I can send you the patterns when I'm done!

I found the automotive velour and suede vendors (fabric is UV treated). I could mail you the patterns when I'm done. I'm doing both Front and Back seats.
