When listning to My Motorola org. (-72) radio, There was a scrathing sound from the speakers.
My Buddy put a drop of oil (WD-40 or any else) on the volume adjustment shaft. And then exercise it back and forth, the problem was gone- clear sound comming from the speakers. This will work on any radio.

That's a good tip. Guessing the scratching noise comes from vibration on the metal shaft?

WD-40 ends up collecting more dust, dirt, and grime, causing the pots (whats causing the crackling, popping, static) to get dirty again and you'll be repeating the same problem solution over again and again... best thing for electronics is to use electrical contact cleaner.
Trust me, if you have time to do it, do it right the first time. :D

Leadslead's right, the potentiometers should only be cleaned with dry-cleaning type solvent. WD-40, however, does work on getti g points to begin working again if the car sat for years because of accumulated moisture.
