The other week (on Ascension Day) board member 75RivGS (Rob) and yours truly visited an American car show in the province of Noord Holland.

Not a really big show, because of the overcast weather there were only around 150 cars joining in, about 5% of those cars were station wagons:

Sheesh Erik, except for the plates, you'd think it was an American show! :rofl2:

I really like the red one with the Reb flag. That's a riot, being in the Netherlands!:rofl2:

Great pics!!! Looks like the GM's were well represented... I love those Rivs too - I like the treatment you gave the front bumper - haven't seen that before. I've always wanted to get one of these and commence to "smoothing"... I love custom Rivs...(y)

Ive always been fond of the fishtail rear end of the 73 Buick Riverias. Always liked that body style Rivi's.

LOL Love the Conferate Flag in the back of that Chevrolet Malibu

As to those Rivieras, they're all beautiful, up until Buick dumped the boattail rear end for a formal roof ('75 or so...?)

Ralph Nader killed the boat-tail rear end for the Rivi's. He claimed that roofline had serious blind spots that are dangerous. They only built thoes cars for the 1972-73 model years, then the Riverias boddy changed completely.

He also doomed the Chevy Covair

American cars have always had quite a following in The Netherlands. I was once driven through the narrow streets and along the canals of Amsterdam in a full-size eighties Chevy Caprice taxi. Great fun it was, too.

The only American taxi in the whole of Amsterdam today is a model year 1996 Buick Roadmaster Limited sedan.
Since GM stopped making RWD V8 powered sedans, they all switched back to Mercedes for taxi use.

Also hearses are Mercedes conversions nowadays, but in the seaside resort village where I'm living we still have a Roadmaster hearse in full service.

What you see are older RWD types.
Which brand new Cadillac is suitable for a hearse conversion ?

"Yo, drop dead in my Escalade SUV hearse, homez......" ?

I was driving home from work the other day minding my own business, as one does, when an newish Australian Ford Fairmont Wagon came the other way. It took me a second to register, having seen so many of these cars on my frequent trips to Australia, but it was wonderful to see one here in the UK.
It was owned by a funeral company. Evidently, there are a large number of Fairmonts and Fairlanes in this country with hearse bodies on, courtesy of a coachbuilding company in Norfolk called Coleman Milne.
