So I know this isn't on a wagon (definitely not the right look for my 442!!!), but I wanted to share my whitewall project (at least it has chrome wagon strips on the back - right?

I bought some "Fonzie's Whitewall Paint" on ebay as an experiment to see how it might work on my PT Cruiser. I did a primer coat of Kilz, followed by 3 coats of the Fonzie's (allowing 24 hours to dry between each coat). This is what the finished product looked like:

Unfortunately, the day after I finished, I drove to New Hampshire in the POURING rain... When I got to my destination, the paint was gone except for the primer. I think the paint and primer did not adhere to each other well, or maybe it just needed more time to cure??? Anyhow, I'm left with just primer, and now it looks more like a rat rod...lol:49:

    Easy come, easy go...

They definitely would, but for the $780 difference, I figured I'd give the paint a try first...

Here's how they look with the paint coming off. Foyflyer40 actually loves the look - very rat rod. I like it too, but I think it would look better if they were on a primer car...

I think it looks pretty cool. But I don't know why you put Kilz on it first?? Why not just follow the directions and see what happens?

That was what the directions said... Use Kilz to prevent bleed through and yellowing... Not sure why it didn't work...

I'd like to get another PT Cruiser Wagon, and make it into a ratrod. If I do, I'll use these for that. My vision is to take a sander to the thing and let the tops of the roof, fenders, and hood rust. I'll throw some primer on the rest, and have my "Barn find PT Wagon"...:dancing:

    I know...I'm a little strange...:jumping:

I've seen a few PT Cruisers with a wood treatment on them, which makes them look really sharp. I'm surprised Chrysler never offered it as a factory trim option. I'll bet alot of folks would've gone for it.

It looks like they came from a car that really needed Curb feelers. Especially with pricey tires like those.

PT Cruisers should have been the start of a whole new look to Mopar's line-up. Like a rerun back up from the 30's to the late 50's. Too bad they were run by a bean-counter from the credit industry.

When I was a kid they had Port-O-Walls. They were white rubber rings that looked just like white walls. You installed the lip under the rim around the tire bead. I thought that they would hang away from the tire but they didn't. Darned if they didn't look just like white walls. Very popular with the kids. I had them on my first car. A 47 Ford Club Coupe.

You could still get those into the 60's. I remember seeing them at Pep Boys.....

Actually, they did. Most of the ones you're seeing are probably the factory 'woodie' package. It does look more like an aftermarket installation than say a CS.

I believe this is the factory 'woodie' package:

    So's this:

I had forgotton all about them, I can't remember the place but in the 70's they were still avalibale....in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada. I also remeber moving out here in 82 and almost all 50's, some 60's stock cruisers had them, very popular and they looked good.....till they ground up on a curb.
