I am looking at having my headliner redone in my 1977 Pontiac Catalina Safari. Does any one know if GM ever went a to a different type of backer material other than the cardboard that mine has? I know in the sedans they switched to white fiber board that resisted moisture better around 1980. I've checked the local salvage yards and found the cardboard style into the early 80's but was unable to find any late 80's models there. Does anybody reproduce these items? My upolstery guy didn't have any ideas but I hate to put money into mine and then have it warp.

Too bad you're not here in NC I know a jy that has plenty of them. What kind of shape is your cardboard is in?

You maybe able to make one from Fiberglass. Check this place out.

Thanks for the idea. My seems pretty flat and does not look to be warped. With winter approaching I wish I was in NC also. I think I'll check with my upholstery shop and see if he thinks I can use some type of resin to seal mine up. If possible I would like to work some type of speaker mounts into it.
