It's about time these cars get love from more than just the derby guys...Looks like he'll make a part II on just the wagons... Honestly, I like the '71 Biscayne with 2900 miles. I wonder if Swanny was at this show?
The 71 6cyl Biscayne; not 2900 miles, it is 1 of 2900 made. I counted 3 of the cars (wagons and sedans) there were NOT owned by "derby guys'.
You can start by noticing the SS wheels and vanity plates. It's also easy when you know who owns each car. 71-76 GM B body cars have been overlooked by prestige collectors unlike other makes and cars of the 60's. They do seem to be getting noticed as they are finally realizing that they are becoming pretty rare. The derby guys continue to dwindle the production numbers (MILLIONS!) to make these cars more scarce - this isn't happening for other types of cars of that era. There are still a lot of these cars to be had, the majority though are in poor condition. There are 2 popular groups who desire these. The Derby guys and the DONK crowd, with a very small minority in between. To note, MOST of these cars are owned by the few, as in one owner has 10-100 cars. Two gentlemen owned more than half the cars there.
Wow! You sound like a statistician - which a lot of us that own old cars are! Especially the muscle car and Vette crowd. I don't get the DONK treatment - the lowrider treatment, yes, I do get. Heck, these Caprices and such have been a part of the lowrider culture pretty much since new. I think that the 60s and 70s Mopar fullsizers seem also to be coveted by the derby crowd too. When I was selling my 77 NYer, I had a lot of derby guys from UT and such calling about it. I'd like to get another, but it's hard to compete against the derby crowd for price - it seems as though they'll travel for a car. I wonder what happened to the fellow that was restoring a '75 Impala sedan on here a while back?
Yes, the Cali, NM lowrider hydrauilic group seems to be making a come back. I don't think they total up as near much as the DONK crowd (NC, SC, GA, FL, AL) and no where's near the derby guys which are nationwide and desire these cars. The DONK crowd and Hydraulic guys usually hack the frames, and the derby guys give the cars their final ride. Not many left untouched. When you speak to most of the derby guys, they bought these cars not with the intent to ever to keep, but to drive for a while and then wreck. Then life happens...
