As a new user...I was looking thru the forums where a user remarked about family vacations of old meaning to get in the station wagon and go. I was reminded that back in the early 60s my father built a large rectangular box and affixed it to the top of our old ford wagon. It was hinged at the front, and was attached to suction cup roof racks. We filled it with camping gear and drove from wny to Lake George, ny. When we set up camp, the roof coffin became the bed for me and my little brother. That was a long time ago....
At least your dad didn't put you and your little brother in the roof-top box when you left on the trip......
YUP. Actually, my dad did the same thing - built boxes for camping, only put them in the trunk. We didnt have a wagon, only a '58 Chevy 4-door sedan. Boxes stored all the cooking supplies and food. clothes, cots, tent and sleeping bags mostly went onto a rack on the roof. (Everybody has his own way of packing a vehicle, including Daddy-O). Funny......once we did have a wagon, we never went camping anymore. (New step-mom didn't like it.....The one time she tried it, she spent hours sweeping the dirt around the campsite....literally)
....what NO seat belts????.... to the board...and good luck with the hunt!! why the .... does no one want them up here???....i could be rich
60s ford wagon After my buick special sedan gave up, I bought a early 60's ford wagon, falcon I think. Someone had put a 3 speed on the floor to replace the 3 on the tree. The shifter had a tight fit against the seat when in 3rd, and had a nasty tendency to spring out of gear when in 3rd. There was a crack in the windshield where the (loose) shift ball had flown off one time and hit the windshield. Though, that big, flat rear area had its uses...kinda like bill clinton and his ranchero.
