We had a 1956 Nash Rambler which was one of only 12 imported into Australia....I learnt to drive in this vehicle...it was like magic to drive...so much superior to any GMH or Ford vehicles on our rough roads and about 25 mph faster. I hope I have done the photo correctly! Lloyd

The conversion was very good..had to get use to gear leaver being on the wrong side though!!!! The car was very pretty.......no wonder they wrote that song about it!
Hey Lloyd. The gear lever was on the right side, you were the one on the wrong side. My mom had a '59 Rambler wagon my dad picked up used in '61 after she finally learned to drive, I spent a lot of time riding in the way back on the load floor in that wagon as a kid. There were six kids in my family at the time, the smallest rode in the car seat with steering wheel that hung off the middle front seat. My dad traded it in on a brand new '65 Plymouth Fury that had a way back seat, the car had more room so my mom had another kid. The day after my dad traded it in we went by the dealer and the Rambler was on the elevated turntable in the front of the used car lot under the spotlights on full display. That Plymouth rusted out in about two years, the Rambler is probably still on the road. The pic was taken in 1961 IIRC. The car is sitting in the driveway in the backyard, two-tone copper and white or ivory, not sure what model but it was optioned pretty good and had lots of chrome. That's me out front messing with my Good Humor Ice Cream pedal car trike, it was cool. A few years later I ripped it apart for parts to build a go kart. I'm still doing about the same thing 50 years later, just bigger vehicles and I don't have to pedal them or coast down hills for motivation.

This pic looks like yesterday's "wagon of the day"...we had a little trouble finding it, but we think we did. At least you gave directions...were you guys able to follow them... Punny... Lloyd, do you have ANY idea what you have just gotten yourself into... I've often wondered why the is 2 LLs in Lloyd...so do we pronounce it laloyd...I'm just kidding... Hope you enjoy the forums!
Lloyd. Have fun here. Grandparents and a few friends had many Ramblers. But none had wagons. I remember them being smooth and quiet cars. But when I had a chance of getting grandma's very low mileage 58 Rambler I didn't want that ugly granny car! I'd love to have one like it now!
We had another Rambler after the one I mentioned here ( Classic 6 cylinder)...It was not in the same class as the Nash Rambler.....finish was not as good...interior average was quite good to drive though...back in those days we did not have paved roads where I lived and they were rather hard on cars....we eventually swapped it for an Australian designed and built Leyland P-76 which was not a pretty cat but the V8 engine was amazing...Our car went on and on eventually we got to one million miles driven in 23 years, I still have it but it needs lots of work to get it to good drivable conditio. n
