Does anyone have the Wagon wiring diagrams for the 80-90 GM box wagons? My 85 Caprice needs some interior lighting work. The rear dome has been torn down, and the front dome doesnt turn on with the rear passenger door switches, but does turn on with the front door switches.

anyone have any insight to this? do the rear passenger door switches somehow run thru that rear dome and back around to the front dome?

In Fords, the Driver Door controls the passenger Dome switches. The Cargo light is on its own switch. Once the tailgate is opened, the cargo light goes on, or if the gate is closed, there's an optional switch. I would think the GM wags would be similar.

This site has some old shop manuals, but not up to 1985:

You might check this site for manuals and diagrams, though, or your friendly Library. Almost impossible to do wiring without the diagram on the seat.

If the Dome light is hanging down, there's no ground. Other than that, you might have a worn out or broken switch.

I don't know how much this will help you, but I just had the headliner along with all of the pillar trim out in my 84 Pontiac Parisienne wagon (same thing as a caprice) to get the headliner recovered.

The front and the rear dome lights are wired seperately. The front dome/map light wires run from the fixture, over the drivers head, and then down the drivers side A-pillar. The front dome light is only wired to the 4 front doors.

The rear dome light wires, if I remember correctly, run down the passenger side D-pillar. The rear dome light is only wired to the tailgate.

On both the front and rear dome light, the light fixtures are hard wired to the harness, which is kinda stupid if you ask me, so if they have to be replaced, you have to cut and splice wires. More than likely it is probably just bad switches on the doors like stormin norman said. They are pretty easy to replace.

the rear dome, or cargo is missing. i have it, but its not in the car.

i know it doesnt come on with any door switches. Whats odd to me is the front dome comes on with the front doors, but not with the rear passenger doors, i guess both switches could be bad, ill just have to do some digging around i guess.

My rear headliner is out, but that doesnt let me see witch way the wires run. Thanks 85P for that information. I guess ill pull the door switches and make sure they are clean and working. When I got the car alot of the switches had corroded and werent working.
