I just bought a 1966 Caprice Wagon with a 396 AC PB PW PS White with turquoise 2 tone interior. It needs some assembly but it's rock solid. I've got a bunch of new parts with it, it was repainted about 2 years ago and the owner never finished putting it together. It's not a show quality job but shiny and smooth is all I require. I want to drive the thing not worry about scratching it! The kids are excited and I hope to have it ready to roll the day the drive-in reopens. It is a 9 passenger wagon, but the old owner sold the rear seat since he didn't need it. So the search for the rear facing seat begins...... Once I get it down to my shop, I'll snap some more pictures. Let yet another project begin.
Nice! Finding one of those that's loaded with a big block is rare. Do you have all the woodgrain trim moldings?
Yes I do, I have a full set. They need to be restored but I'm putting the "woody" back on. I think I'm going to put on a set of nice ralley rims and put the caps off to the side. It should look great!
Congrats, 63wag. I'm confused by these pix. In 3 of them it looks as though there is no engine in the car the way it sits. Then the pic from the back looks like the rear is sitting on the ground but high on other pix. Like I say...I'm confused by this car's stance in different pix. Looks like a nice car.
The front springs have been replaced so that's why it has that "engineless" ride to it. There's a few things not on the front end too, like the rest of the bumper, inner wheel wells, stuff like that. It came with new rear springs but they're sitting on the front floorboard. It does look funky and replacing the rear springs is the first thing I'll do when I get it up in the air at the shop.
I would say at least a couple of months, but definitely cruising this summer. I'm fired up for it so I may get it done sooner. I'll do a lot of cosmetic stuff while I'm driving it, I just want to get the safety issues gone through first since I'll have the kids in it. I also want to put a disc brake conversion on the front. It seems weird with all those options that it didn't have disc brakes, but that was back when you ORDERED the car you wanted.
Nice job, 1963. Quite a find, to say the least. Looks like all the hard work was done already; all that's left is the fun stuff. Can't wait to see it when it's done. Congratulations and have fun.
Great news! Will the fold-down seats from other years and models fit? like 1967 or 1968-9. Whatever you do, get all the hardware.
Pictures while you are assembling it are pretty much mandatory you realize....................... Congrats on the great scoop.
But Saf, you didn't tell him about the Official Anti-drool keyboard cover after 1,000 pics! I think Gerber or Heinz make it.
