I am using Dennis Carpenter door seals for my 63 Fairlane wagon and granted the rear ones aren't going to be a perfect fit because they are for a sedan [nobody makes them for a wagon] but I have installed one front one and no matter how I adjust the door I can't get it to close all the way. I had a similar problem with my 54 Ford 2 door sedan a few years ago but was able to adjust the doors to make them work with no problem. I had all the doors and fenders adjusted perfectly in line with each other and now I don't know what to do, any help is greatly appreciated, thanks, Timmo
Have you looked here?: http://metrommp.com/?f=product_list_for_vehicle&VehicleYear=1963&Make=FORD&Model=FAIRLANE and for door seals, if you have a chunk of the original cross section, you could scan his list of universal door seals here: http://metrommp.com/?f=part_type_list This could be useful too: http://metrommp.com/pages/TechnicalInfo.html If all else fails, email them: http://metrommp.com/pages/ContactUs.html
Door and quarter seals Yes, I tried Metro when I was first looking for this stuff and they didn't have anything for the quarter windows and weren't interested in helping me when I was on the phone with them and the door seals are Dennis Carpenter from original molds but they need to make them out of softer rubber. It's at the front of the door where the seal goes from sealing on the outside of the pillar to the inside and makes a slight jog, for some reason the rubber is really thick there so I may have to trim it down. I have the door almost closing and it is out so far in the front that I would have to shim the fender out 1/4" at least and then it won't line up with the cowl anymore. If any of you 62-65 Fairlane wagon owners need the qaurter window gasket please call Eddie Lail at Steele Rubber, 1-800-447-0849 and press 0, then ask for Eddie Lail, he is the new product development guy and has had my samples for two years, they need some prodding to get these things done for us!
I can't help you, but you might want to consider joining The Fairlane Club of America. They have a strong, active base and might be able to help you out with your Fairlane-specific questions. I don't have my Fairlane Cobra anymore, and I'm still a member. Great group of folks. www.fairlaneclubofamerica.com They do charge aa $35 / year membership, but you get a lot for your money. Hope this helps you out.
Timmo, that has happened to me a lot, I ended up taking the w/strips off the car and cut them in half so the doors would once again fit.
