I'm just getting caught up on reading some of my snail mail and I found these nifty little tidbits in a newsletter that my real estate agent sent out just in time for Canada Day (last month). I've added my own inanities to liven up the original material somewhat. 1) Canada is the world's most educated country: over half of it's residents have post secondary degrees. I live in a university town and I'm thinking that the 50% with educations must be in hiding 'cause I certainly don't see much evidence of them around town! 2) Canada has more doughnut shops per capita than anywhere else Home of doughnut kings Stan Mikita AND Tim Horton!! 3) Canada's lowest recorded temperature was -81.4F (-63C) in 1947. I'm looking at you, Winnipeg! 4) Canada consumes more macaroni and cheese than any other nation in the world. I know I'm doing MY part 5) Canada officially got its own national flag on February 15, 1965, almost 100 years after it became a country in 1867 We knew who we were and had better things to do. 6) Canada has six time zones 7 if you count the effects of "after last call" 7)Canada's official phone number is 1-800-0-Canada I love this! I'll have to give that a try and figure out just what the heck that number would be for. 8) 80% of all alcohol consumed in Canada is beer What else goes better with back bacon, Eh? 9) American's have invaded Canada twice, in 1775 and 1812. They lost both times. Technically the USA invaded numerous times during the War of 1812. In 1814, once American troops were driven back across the border, British and Canadian soldiers followed them all the way to Washington and razed the place, burning both the Capitol Building and the White House with a mass of wooden furniture and gunpowder. The only logical explanation for such rude behaviour would be that the Americans must have taken some of our beer with them.
10) Canada reinforces the National Anthem by building a beer fridge that requires its citizens to properly sing "O, Canada!" to open it. Only Americans would think they're entitled to 'have a cold one.' There'd be rioting in the streets if American's had to properly sing The Star-Spangled Banner and properly make the key change to get a beer.

Keep Canada Dry! The Canadians who bought the five acre place next door haven't been back in two years. I think they got deported! Cold beer and Canadian bacon, they can't be all bad....eh? Wonder what our officlal phone number is?

You would get very apologizing 'Sorry but we Canada are not home' And how we got our name( it's true!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYi3O0ywY6k And a few other of our heritage minutes..... Funny as I remember learning all this in school before they made the 1 minute TV commercials. Today you ask a kid and they..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pii2-9E-xD4
"1-800-0-Canada is currently closed"...that's what I got. I'll have to try again tomorrow. Thanks for the fun facts.
This phone thread reminds me of one in the Chicago area. Dial it and you get the Polish Joke of the Day. 630 968-POLZ
I confess to knowing little about beer but it's my understanding that Canadian beer drinkers will go to great lengths to avoid drinking American beer.
I don't know much about beer either. Drink it occasionally when out or mowing the lawn. Don't remember ever having Canadian beer and most American beers don't taste good to me. I imagine it's being used to a certain taste like German beers and others. I've heard we have weak beer. I have found out the best beer is FREE BEER.! When I was young and became of age to buy beer I bought seven cans for a dollar. I think it was called Black Label. I also think that paint thinner or tirpintine probably tasted the same!
Actually whenever I'm south of the border I like to pick up offerings from either Stone brewing or Dogfish head both have some great hoppy brews. In fact I'm down to my last Stone, GOTO IPA, need more.
