I'll have to use the process of trial-and-error to figure these parts out. Haynes has a really good How-to about re-installing them but they don't say weather the red-tipped ones go on the passenger side or the yellow ones. Then to complicate the thing even more, some are coded with green or blue. And 3rd, they only show the front door of the 2 door sedan, not the 4-door or wagon. Bah Humbug!

Even the Ford shop manuals don't make the distinction. It's hard to hold the book when shivering like a dog crapping razor-blades, if you get my meaning!

    Should've taken pictures. Mea culpa.:banghead3:

When I figure it out, I'll post my discoveries.

The door latch hardware inside each door that hooks up the door handles and locks. I should have taken pictures or taped them together for each door, but I didn't. BUT Mother Nature loves me again, today is the last cccold for 5 days! Got snow last nite and its all gone.

Anyway, I checked to Ford Shop Manuals again and found better pictures and details, so it may not be too long to get this done.

I goofed from the get-go! I put the exterior handles back in, with the lever positioned toward the front of the door. One picture in the Ford shop manual showed the positioning, for a Lincoln and I installed 3 of them before I decided to check the Haynes. It wasn't all that good either, so I went to Autozone's site.

The little floppy lever with the rubber grommet goes toward the rear edge (latch direction) of the door. The Shop manual tells you to replace the rivets with 1/4" diam X 20 gauge thread X 3/4" thin-headed flat bolts. That's what I did, so I can remove them and get it right.

After that, the door handle, lock and keylock rods are the next issue. Again, the rear door system uses a long lock lever, with a 'bell-crank' pivot to attach the up/down button and activate the door lock from inside.

It has to be installed attached to the actual door latch mechanism (handle-end) and the latch that's bolted on the business-end of the door (where it actually grips the pillar post), before you screw it onto the door jamb. Slip the two ends in their respective assemblies, position the latch and thumb-thread a couple of star bolts, then mount the other end.

Autozone's manual door lock has no pictures, so I checked the Power Door Lock page and there is the whole works! Nothing about color-coding like mine are, but the shapes and lengths are clear enough to 'get the picture':

We're below freezing now, but it was a couple degrees higher when I stopped. It'll be great tomorrow, about 42F by 10:00 AM.:) and higher all day.:) :)

We'll be in deep freeze by late next week until mid-May. So I've got to get the car sealed up and the tarp down before then. It's funny how the body adapts to cold and then back to warm weather. It's that adjustment time when the cold sneaks in. Up till last week I shivered at 39F, now its OK, so when I get 42 to 48F, I feel like wearing a bikini - 2 piece earmuffs!  :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
