CHINA'S NEW LITTLE CAR This is not a joke, they do sell for $600.00 and they won’t be able tomake them fast enough. Here's a one seater car that will get youback and forth to work on the cheap... This $600 Volkswagen car gets 258 mpg, 109.687 km/l or 0.9 litres per 100 km!This $600 car is not a toy; it is ready to be released in China next year. The single seater aero car totes VW (Volkswagen) branding.Volkswagen did a lot of very highly protected testing of this car in Germany ; it was not announced until now where the car would make its first appearance...The car was introduced at the VW stockholders meeting as the most economical car in the world! The initial objective of the prototype was to prove that 1 litre of fuel could deliver 100 kilometres of travel. Its Spartan interior does not sacrifice safety; the impact and roll-over protection is comparable to a GT racing cars. The aero design proved essential to getting the desired result. The body is 3.47 meters long and just 1.25 meters wide, and a little over a meter high. The prototype was made completely of carbon fibre and is not painted to save weight. The power plant is a one cylinder diesel, positioned ahead of the rear axle and combined with an automatic shift controlled by a knob in the interior. The Most Economic Car in the World will be on sale next year.-Better than Electric Car – 258 miles/gallon: IPO 2010 in Shanghai -This is a single-seat car from conception to production: 3 years and the company is headquartered in Hamburg , Germany . -It will be selling for 4000 Yuan, equivalent to US $600. -Gas tank capacity: 1.7 gallons -Speed: 62 – 74.6 Miles/hour -Fuel efficiency: 258 miles/gallon -Travel distance with a full tank: 404 miles or 646 km!
1) I could see myself getting something like that for commuting (if I could get in and out of it). 2) I would like to see pictures of it. 3) The feds would never allow anything that affordable to be imported to the US so it is really moot. mike
Only their great high quailty food. Where else can you buy fish raised on chicken s@*^. And it's getting difficult to buy American products with lead in them and on them.
I doubt it will pass safety regulations. I remember when Fiat left the US market last time over that kinda stuff. I don't know from meters, I understand feet and inches, but I'm betting small, I'm thinking dangerous.........I can just imagine the discussion at the wake.........such a shame, and he still had a liter of fuel left...........
I understand they are no larger than coffin. So there's a big savings already. Plus would only need two pall bearers. One to steer and the other to push it into the hole.
Since I have ridden a bicycle to work in the past I am sure I would be in no more danger in this case. As to the feds I can decide for myself what level of safety equipment I desire thank you. I don't need a nanny. mike
You may not need a nanny but we all have them to make sure we hook our seat belts, put our kids in fancy new child seats, wear our motorcycle helmets, drive our safe cars, and don't eat anything supersized. And that's only the tip of the now smooth iceburg.
This is just one of the articles I found debunking the ridiculously low selling price. I knew something was awry when I saw "$600 car" and "carbon fiber" close together. http://www.jefflewis.net/blog/2013/03/cool_car_e-mail_debunking_-_ch.html Even the price estimate in this second article seems quite low. http://ebongeek.com/2011/11/09/is-volkswagen-really-producing-a-600-200mpg-car-in-china/ Ooh, it even has its own wiki page. Looks like the actual selling price point is juuuuust slightly higher than the originally quoted $600. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_1-litre_car
Juuuuust slightly higher. How many years and miles would it take to see an ROI on the fuel savings? High MPG is almost a moot point.
In the USA, it would cost $6800.00. Wait, we (may) have one on the way! http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2013/01/04/6800-car-to-be-built-at-former-gm-plant-in-louisiana/  Its called the Elio. http://www.eliomotors.com/?gclid=CLz8xPrT57wCFRJo7AodSzQAEg
My son in Illinois ordered an Elio for his wife to commute 60+ one way each day. But she recently bought a new car so he's gonna drive the Elio himself. We'll see. At least he is used to moorcycles.
