Hi members and lurkers. I haven't done much cleaning on the wagon since early September, and it's been holding up nicely. Yesterday, I decided it was time for a thorough exterior wash. So I opened a bottle of Black Magic Wet Shine car wash that I'd bought months ago and headed to the do-it-yourself car wash. I am very impressed with the product. It not only does the standard cleaning job, it also restores a ton of gloss to the finish, and even makes the di-noc look better. This could mean no cold-weather polishing for me this winter. A very safe and happy fall and winter holiday season to everyone!

Thanks Krash and Cat. I love having a beautiful tiime-warp woody wagon as my daily driver: not because other people admire it (which is fine), but because I like using it (hauls my son's bowling equipment quite nicely, in addition to swallowing anything I need to pick up at Lowes or HD with ease, and carrying my daughter plus friend in the "way back" jump seats), sharing it and enjoying it. I'll never own a trailer queen - that would be too stressful worrying about potential damage. Cars, even well-maintained older ones, still want to be driven.

Your wagon looks GREAT! It warms your heart when you find a product that works as well as it says it will. I picked this up the other day...

It worked really well on my Jimmy. I don't have any before pics but I always carried a plastic milk crate in the back with stuff in it. Anyway there was a square on the carpet where it sat for just about 7 years. After using this stuff you can't even tell there was ever a box in the back. :yup:

THAT'S A BEAUTIFUL COLONY PARK. Black becomes it. That's also a pretty neighborhood you live in, it appears.

Thanks for the tip you guys, I'm going to run out and get both products!

Thanks Mark. We're on a busy street (making the taxes more affordable) but it's quiet and private in back. Good luck with the products.

Thanks Xaviar! There's a mint powder blue '87 on e-bay right now, but I just can't warm to the color. The combination of black paint, medium-tone elm woodgrain di-noc, and red/burgundy leather interior was a big selling point for me when I was looking for a great old wagon.
Ian, I'll have to check out the Mr. Clean self-drying car wash.

The Black Magic liquid car wax WAS the no. 1 rated wax while it was available. Strange, right after being named no. 1 by Consumer Reports, it became unavailable. I got the last 2 bottles at our local O'Reiley's off the clearance table. New formula coming out maybe??

I am getting to the point where colour is less and less important to me. That mint one is well out my price limit. Still have my preferences like black ex/blue in, no wood grain, etc., not so much requirements anymore. Nonetheless, thanks for the tip.

I can still get the BM wet shine liquid wax in my part of NJ, and have some in the garage, but I have switched back to Meguiar's because, on the black paint, it gives a longer-lasting finish. But the BM wet shine car wash is the perfect complement to the Meguiar's in between wax jobs.

No prob. There was a mint Vista Cruiser on e-bay - kind of a butterscotch gold. Again, not my first choice of color, but the older these classic wagons get, the less picky we can be about that.

    Who washes their cars?
I haven't washed my GTO in 18 years, I washed the Custom Cruiser when I got it because it had so much dirt from the lousy open transporter all over it, never since.
They are both kept out of any inclement weather in a climate controlled garage with super bikini models gently fanning them with ostrich feathers to keep any stray dust particle that may get in from settling on the paint.:)
Quik Detailer is it, on top and under the car, and if worse comes to worse a bucket with some water and a Ultimate Cloth to wash off anything that the tires may have flung up on the sides.
I use an Ultimate Cloth and plain water for the glass, nothing works better IMO.

Black Magic was the K-Mart bondo when I was doing rust repair back in the olden days, I guess they've branched out.:D
