I do remember a few of these driving around when new. Never did anything for me then, and not really that much now yet it's kinda cool almost.....?. I never knew the whole back opened up and that they had T-tops until today! Shooting brake?, wagon?, or????? 2 more crappy pics in the listing..... https://www.usedvictoria.com/classified-ad/sport-back_31549628 Never knew period until today google searching...... another one with both lids...... What it looks like with the other lid.....
I actually test drove one of these and thought about buying one (I didn’t) in 1986 or around then. They were sort of a cheaper alternative to a Honda Prelude, Toyota Celica, Mazda RX-7 or Nissan 280Z (or whatever bloated version of the 240Z was current then). The “Sportbak” lid was an option. The other lid in the last pic is what it came with. I don’t remember ever seeing the Sportbak lid on cars on the street. The car looks kinda like a Prelude from the mid-80s in the last pic. Still not a bad-looking profile. I see Pulsars for sale sometimes in Ontario. Not really tempted to buy one though. Too bad this one is an automatic. Might still be fun with a manual, and a rust-free BC car.
I've never seen that option before. Could it have been exclusive for the Canadian market? I like it, though. It gives the car plenty of charachter. The ad has been retracted. I wonder how much it sold for How was it, then?
I remember seeing these driving around. This is something to keep an eye out for. I didn’t realize you could swap out the back. I do remember t-tops on them. It is cool for a gimmick. Storing all the extra parts would be a pain. I wonder how water tight it all is after 30 years?
As I remember, not especially fast or powerful engine. More like an economy car dressed up to be sporty. But it was a fun little car with the T-top. You could also remove the rear lid for open-air driving. Now Tedy has got me driving down the nostalgia road. Here's one for sale not too far from me for just $1,000: I'm trying to convince myself not to buy it before it sinks any deeper into the ground. https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cars-trucks...bo/1343607418?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true And here's one in La Belle Province: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-autos-camio...es/1345438304?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true But it's an automatic for $4,995. Or this one (stock photo only) in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan for $3,995: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cars-trucks...op/1343933077?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true Also an automatic.
They were sold in the U.S. as well.... The way I remember it, most were sold with the 'coupe' top, but most dealers at least displayed one with the 'wagon' top, and you could buy it just with one top if you wanted to - which is what most buyers did, i believe.
