    1957 Intercontinental Station Wagon - $7800 (Sarasota)

This rare Station Wagon was 1 of only 5 ever built. It was first introduced at the 1957 World's Fair with Cadillac designing the interior and Pontiac tripling the sheet metal on the body, this car was considered the safest car for it's time. Comes with a newly rebuilt Oldsmobile 455 (still in it's crate) and rebuilt Olds Turbo 400 transmission with new torque converter. New stars and emblems, extra rear window, car has very little rust. Will sell for $7800 or best offer. Please call Miles at 941-737-9292 for more information.

I thought it was called a 'Transcontinental'.
Anyway, I believe this was a 'one year only' vehicle, comparable to a Bonneville Safari (except the only Bonneville in '57 was a convertible). It apparently had some unique features, but the only one I know about is a reclining right front passenger seat.

If it's all there and the guy knew what he was doing when he built the engine and tranny it's a steal.
But it would be worth a lot more if it had the original engine and tranny. Those 57 Poncho's were beautiful cars.

There were 1894 Transcontinental wagons built. It can't be the same vehicle. The ad for the Intercontinental says just 5 wer built and thicker sheet metal does not make it sound like a regular production wagon. Also, it looks like the side trim was gold anodized aluminum, which I don't think the Transcontinentals had.

Heres an ad on Craigslist for some guy in search of a Transcontinental. I wonder if he's seen the ad for the Intercontinental.

In the Rodders Journal Issue #17 there is a great article on the Transcontinental rebuilt by Old Stillwater Garage in New Jersey. It is a beautiful car. There were something in the neighbourhood of 1,800 made according to this article. They used a lot of trim that was not available on the other '57 wagons. We viewed one at a wrecking yard in Missoula, MT back in about 1981 owned by a fellow I believe named Mike Zarbolis. It was fairly complete but had been sitting there for a long time. They came with the passenger side front seat able to recline. The one in the RJ is just outstanding. I should have bought the one in Missoula and stuck it away for future but was too busy redoing my 2dr Safari. Oh well.....there are a lot of "I should have's" in my automotive life.

And the pix of this car are where?
It's usually polite to introduce yourself first, 19T. Our rules prevent selling until you have 5 posts. And selling without pix is.....well, to me, a fruitless gesture.
    Nevertheless....Welcome aboard.

It is a big advantage having the TC virtually complete to who ever does the restoration. Finding parts for these with the Transcontinental being so unique due to it's one year offering and Bonnieville trim pieces. I would love to have one. With a 70 SS Chevelle in the throws of restoration (wife had one from new for 10 years and I sold it - oops, so now replacing it with a frame-off redo of the twin to her original) I have come to realize that doing a complete frame off restoration is no longer so much fun as it turns out to be my job. It was a sad event to recognize that I have more projects left to do than I have life left to live:oops:. That is, of course, if I want to actually use them for a while.
