Hi, my dad owns a 1993 caprice wagon that except for rusty rear quarters is in very good shape. He is 76 and wont be driving to many more years but the car will not pass state inspection due to rust and its causing him to be a homebody. He (we) dont have a ton of money to rescue this car but repairs would still be cheaper than a replacement. He is a BIG guy and the caprice suits him well. The problem i am having is finding either new full quarters or repair quarters. i am a capable welder with some body work experience, but making a panel is above my level. The local body shops either wont touch it or want to treat it like a restoration car, by the hour or $5000 !! Are there any repo panels or sections made for this car? Is there a used parts yard any where that we could get them? I ggogled it and came up with a year one add thats apparently very old, when i called them about quarters they had no clue. Any help would be appreciated!! My dad would really like this car to outlast him!! Thanks Ryan ssscamaro@verizon.net
You might have to start scrounging scrapyards for a donor. I know what you mean, the quarters on mine are rusty. The previous owner did do some repairs with fiberglass, and although it's not pretty, it's functional.
These might help. Check if they have any links too.: http://www.rustrepair.com/repair_panels/onlinecat.htm?r=ru&p=sm-chev.car http://www.up22.com/index.htm http://www.wolferacecraft.com/default.aspx http://www.usbody.com/ http://64.7.135.213/index.cfm?fa=Pu...SubApplicationId=0&Keywords=&cmdSearch=Search
there is a couple of possibilities you can venture to,,,,,,the dealerships are hit and miss even on cars of your vintage at least around here ,,,everytime i call the dealer parts dept about this or that i get a disssscontinuedddd :banghead3: ,,,,, a couple of years ago i needed a door for a wagon which i could not find locally and got tired of waiting and calling the salvage yards every week so i found online a used parts locater put in what i needed and got responses from all over and wound up getting a door a really nice one outta montana,,,the beauty of it was i got quite a few responses via my online request,,,,i got replies from my old stompin grounds in okielahoma and texas and arizona,,,,but obviously went with the closest possibility being montana,,,i think if i remember right i googled salvadge yards and somehow stumbled across it
Hi 80! Haven't seen ya for a while! I apologize for not labelling that last link in my earlier post, but it looked like the most promising. It's Pro Body Parts, and that page opens up directly on their Caprice body panels. Here's their main page: http://www.probodyparts.com/ And that link above (Different URL): http://64.7.135.213/index.cfm?fa=Pu...SubApplicationId=0&Keywords=&cmdSearch=Search
http://car-part.com This is an internet junkyard search engine that is nation wide. You may have to call them and make sure it is a wagon, as the sedans are different. The other models that are the same are: 1991-1996 Caprice wagon, 1991-1996 Buick Roadmaster wagon, 1991-1993 Oldsmobile custom cruiser.
SSCAPRICE, Just yesterday I hand my hands on a '91 blue Caprice wagon at my local "U-Pull" junkyard. It is the only B-Body wagon at a U-pull yard in the area that I know of. (I needed the retaining fastener plastic "screw" for the spare tire compartment cover.) The car has all the body panels that are in Southern Arizona, pristine, rust-free condition. I can do everything except operate a torch or I'd pull it for you. If you ever find yourself south of Phoenix, I would be glad to show you where it is.
