Just came across this listing on eBay for an 87 Safari. Claims 89,000 miles. A/C has been serviced and works. Car seems to be in excellent condition. I was especially impressed with the chrome on the front. Classy!! Price doesn't seem bad, BIN 4995.00 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pontiac-Oth...tr=true&hash=item27da80c1f1&item=171169595889
Notable differences between my Safari and this one: - The 'wood'. Earlier versions like mine have a 'plank' effect. - Appearance. The front is basically just a Chevy Caprice with a different grill. The Pontiac-specific front sheet metal was dropped after 1981. Same for the instrument panel. - The engine (although I'm not positive on this one). I believe this is one spot where the one for sale may have the advantage - I think by '87, the Olds 307 had been replaced by the Chevy 305.
Nope, if Pete Dunton's Old Car Memories is accurate it was the 307 Olds. "For 1987 the Oldsmobile LV2 4-bbl 5.0 liter (307 CID) V8 was mandatory for the Safari, it was rated at 140 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque."
I don't know about there, but here in Canada, the Olds was rated for more horsepower and torque than the Chevy 305. Not a huge difference, but it was something like 10 hp or so.
I see a nice Chrysler beside of it as well... which is also listed on ebay. I also see what appears to be a 71-73 GM hardtop sedan in the background, but I cant make out what it is.
If you want to see the Chrysler up close, it is listed on eBay too. Click the link to go to the Pontiac auction first. Then in the upper right corner, click on the link to "see seller's other items" As I recall, the Chrysler is priced somewhere in the 3k range.
