Is this worth it at $8500? I was thinking of putting in a bid but know nothing about Buicks, the 300 V8 or the car. Seems to me like their version of the Vista Cruiser. Those have scared be because of the rust around that top glass and the availability of that glass if something happens. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Buick-Skyla...a8ca040f:g:3bwAAOSwe7BWyIpG&item=191810372623
There's no "seems" about it. It IS Buick's version of the Vista Cruiser, although I'm sure Buick fans will say it the other way around, that the Vista Cruiser is Oldsmobile's version of the Sportwagon. But the raised-roof Vista Cruiser both pre-dated and post-dated the Sportwagon. The VC was made from 1964 through 1972 (8 model years) while the raised-roof Sportwagon was made, I believe, only from 1965 through 1969 (5 model years). Your concerns are well-founded. That roof glass IS difficult to find should you ever need it, but you probably won't need it unless the glass on this car already has a crack. Rust around the roof glass IS a not-uncommon problem with these cars and can be difficult and expensive to fix. In my opinion, the current $8,100 bid for this is not an unreasonable selling price if it is as good as it looks. He doesn't show any close-ups of the roof glass in his photos. I would want to see this car in person, but my guess is that it is a good car. I don't know why he misspells "wagon" with an "e" throughout his ad (Sportwagen). He must be of German extraction. He also has the name of the car wrong. It is not a "Skylark" Sportwagon. It is a "Skyroof" Sportwagon or simply "Sportwagon." At least, that's what it's called in the 1965 Buick brochure.
Thank you for your reply. I was hoping to get s opinion before the auction ended. I'm going to ask for more shots around the glass. It appears to have been painted and seeing where it is from that could mean a lot of bad covered up. Thanks again.
