Not a wagon, but a base-model 4-door. The floor boards had rust holes, so when Dad changed lanes, I'd watch the lane stripes go by underneath. My brother Tim nicknamed it "Black Beauty." Because of that car, My favorite Chebby is the 1959 MY.
closest I can come is our family's 60 Chevy wagon........I "took out" the powerglide twice in that car..........
No, but this family did... (this may be a Bel-Air wagon with optional full wheel discs). http://youtu.be/jWHOg3flY4Q
When I was little (the early 1960's), my uncle had a 2 tone green 59 Chevy Impala Nomad 4 door wagon. My Dad had a green 1960 Ford Country Sedan wagon. My family, in the Ford, and my cousins, in the Chevy, often went on camping trips together. I never actually rode in the Chevy (that I recall), but I remember watching it follow behind us and I remember watching the "Chinese Turtle" tail lights as we followed it. When I was a kid, 1959 Chevys were called "Chinese Turtles". It was probably because of the unique tail lights. I can still vividly recall one occasion, riding in the Ford, closely following the Chevy on a rough dirt road in a thunderstorm on one of these camping trips. Lightning struck the road between the Chevy and the Ford I was in. I was about 4 years old at the time and the sight of the lightning strike so close engraved the image on my brain. I remember being surprised that my cousins had been totally unaware of the lightning strike that had missed them (and us) by a few feet. Any time someone here mentions a 59 Chevy wagon, I instantly get the mental image of the rear of a light green over dark green wagon, with luggage pilled high and covered with canvas on the roof, and a lightning strike just missing the rear bumper. I remember on the 2 tone green Impala wagon the light green on the roof also extended to the tops of the fins and the upper part of the tailgate. I think that was a two tone treatment unique to Impalas.
The gas station I worked at had a '60 Nomad Wagon. I had a '58 Nomad Wagon. The only '59 we all had (amongst my friends and I) was a '59 Impala 2-Dr HT. Bill
