Cool looking, Airstream. We've more than one of those on here. It looks to be in fine shape for a '73. Best of luck with it.
VERY nice. As for hitch you need to go here Airforums.com and here http://www.reese-hitches.com/ YES - you need an equalizer hitch. Your tongue weight on that is almost 600 pounds. Welcome to the world of wagons and Airstreams. It is great..... and that trailer looks to be in pretty decent shape.
Safari, I have a WD hitch, the owner sent it with the trailer. It is a Reese, not sure of model, it has numbers on it. I was told the dual cam is the best WD hitch, if someone has a pic, I can tell if that is what I have. The trailer towed very well behind a 99 Durango on the way home. I surley belive my 69 Chrysler T&C will tow it even better (more HP, bigger etc). Now I am looking for a hitch for the wagon, looking for an original before I look for someone to custom make one. John, you're more likely to find a Factory hitch on the West coast and our Prairies because the folks out there have used T&Cs and Mercuries for crossing the Rockies far more than Eastern folks. Safari, Tedy, Ford Nut and me are probably the guys to do some spyin' for you.
Hey MPJ, CONGRATULATIONS on your new Airstream! I just saw your threads on the Airstream forum, and somehow missed them on here. Your '73 looks sooo nice! I love the even sheen of your aluminum's finish. Most Airstreams of this vintage get cooked beyond belief, with the clear-coat all burned off, and the nice original look is gone forever. Your finish looks like brand new! Smooth and cool! My '76 is not as bad as some, but will need to be polished, for sure, to ever look really good. Yours looks absolutely wonderful just as it is! I'm so happy for you! Yeah, your Airstream is going to need all sorts of little repairs, they all do. But your beautiful '73 has so much going for it, outside and inside, that you are way ahead of the game! I'm a little bit jealous! But just a bit! Yours! What a beautiful site to photograph it in...looks like an ad! :2_thumbs_up_-_anima Mine! Still in storage purgatory! David (I go by ScoobyShack on the airforums)
Glad you have the WD hitch. So important. Your wagon will pull that trailer very nicely. You are going to be turning heads, getting thumbs up (even more than with just the wagon) all along the highway Reese hitches are very good. I do not have the dual cam unit as my trailer is pretty light so not needed, but I do have the WD style hitch (Reese). Yep, that is one pretty trailer. I wish the body on mine was that nice. Mine has so many beauty marks, as folks tend to call tree limb smacks, that you'd get dizzy looking at it fast. But it is shiny. Not as shiny as CS54's, but still kind of shiny. I've got a lot of work ahead of me to get it up to snuff in that regard. You are going to have a ton of fun.
Thanks guys, yes she is in pretty good shape, although I am a little anal and wish she was more pertfect. Wix, the sheen is good on the sides, and the roof and ends do have some clearcoat breakdown, I was looking for a 69-71 but this one found me, what does yours look like inside? It's a 76 and it looks almost the same. Yes, any help finding a hitch will be rewarded .The rear end has a dent on both corners, I really do want to get them fixed, well see if it can be done on my budget. Today I spent 6 hours washing it, still not done. So far 2 leaks- door side vista view (roof window) and door seal on entry door. I am going to be a few days getting her to my standard of clean. MPJ
