Does anyone know if the rear wind deflector on luggage racks was optional on Country Squires? More specifically, was this considered an option for buyers who were wanting to tow? I am looking at a '72 Country Squire that does not have the rear wind deflector on the luggage rack. The car is very original and I have found a couple of other pictures of 70s era Squires without the wind deflector.
It was optional. They're rare, but every now and then they pop up. I'd guess that the same unit was used over several years. Ford used the same roof racks from the late 60's to almost the late 80's.
Fox, As a matter of fact, yes I did. It's the one I PM'd you about last week. I'm going to end up having to pay a little more than I originally hoped, but I think it's a good choice. This weekend I'll be driving about 6.5 hours to look at the car. Assuming everything checks out, I'll be driving it home on Sunday. It's effectively a one-owner (one family) with about 70,000 original miles. From what I gather from talking to the owner and seeing pics, it needs very little. I'll post pics as I get it home. By the way, thanks for the tip about sending $100 asking the seller to hold the car. This really helped gain credibility with the seller.
That's great that you found one you like! Just check it over real good before you commit. I hope it turns out to be everything you have been waiting for.
Aah, so the deflector comes with a car attached.... Yah rare is right, I have one in still in the box for a Fairmont.
No wonder you keep it in Area 51a! I've never seen it! What's the part number? The main central numbers would at least identify the main category in Ford's numbering system. Then a guy could do a pretty thorough search for another one. This site has the categories and brief descriptions, but other than ROOF or Trunk lid categories, you have to check MISC or TRIM, or ??? http://www.spacecoastshelby.com/nos.html That last one points to a Ford parts decoding site with more sub-categories: http://www.hammar.dyndns.org/~djhamma/partnumb.htm
