have any of you who show your wagon, ever been denied entry into a car show?

one of my car club members shows his 1993 caprice wagon. and was turned away at a local cruise after being told his car was not a classic nor collectable.

(i'd have dumped some rubber right in front of him )

Ian, I'm brand new to the showing end of a car show, but I do know that some shows require the vehicle to be "no newer than the model year 19XX", for example.

Never tried a show, but year limits are pretty common. Husband & wife friends with '67 and '02 Mustangs showed-up at an event and were told they couldn't put the '02 in the show area. Registration people told them it was a 'classic' event.... Seems to also be a means used to keep out cars that some older people don't want to see. Seems some old people forget how they were seen when they first started modifying cars 40-50-60 years ago.

Anyway, the irony is my friends originally met while showing their cars at a Mustang event.....

I think the show at the Jackson Mall in New Jersey has a requirement that it be no newer than a '74 I think. I was told that so I don't know for sure. I hope the show this weekend in RedBank doesn't have that requirement. 90Merc, have you checked into that?

Classic car is a term used to describe an older car, but the exact meaning is subject to differences in opinion. The Classic Car Club of America, maintain that 20 years to 45 years old for a car to be a classic (over 45 years fall into the Antique Class).

So a classic car according to the Classic Car Club of America is a 1990 and older this year. Yet I see shows all the time with a mid 70'2 limit, which is not fair IMO. Though I do admit, I get a little annoyed when I go to some car shows and see lines of PT Cruisers and late model Vettes, Stangs and Camaros that you can see on every street in any time of year. But the passion for loving cars should not be limited to a year, anyone who has a car worth showing, should be allowed to show it off.

Snoot, I checked before registering and my '90 is cleared so you should be fine with your '87. :thumbs2:

Around here, they usually have to be 20 years old. Some shows around here it can't be made after 79, or 65.

There several shows with age limits, some of them I find ridiculous.
74 at jackson is because they are only allowed a certain amount of cars. They needed to limit somehow.
Lead East "the worlds biggest 50's party" used to be 65 or so, but now they've bumped it to 72. I think that 72 is ridiculous, it's a 50's party keep it 65 or get rid of the limit and just park newer cars in a different lot. (That is a big show)
Most shows are open to all. I think what your friend saw just isn't right. That car is 17 years old. It either has been preserved or redone to look good this far down the line. It deserves to be in a show more than all the 2010 and 2009's I see all the time at shows. But hey, you always get a few arseholes without an age restriction who feel the need to be age police.
I've gotten it with my cutlass (Currently 23) at a show you pay to enter put on by a club that was all NEW cars.

Many clubs and shows limit by setting a year model range. That's OK with me. Just stick to the shows where you are welcome.(y)

Yup, I agree. I certainly run into this with my '80. The Syracuse show I'm headed to this weekend is '80 and older, so I just sneak in under the wire... NSRA shows used to be '48 and older (Street Rods ONLY), but as their attendance numbers declined, they changed it to 30 years old or more. I know most Goodguys shows are '72 and older, so I do not attend those at the moment...:(

A guy here locally built a '02 Mini Cooper with a 572 in it (it's prostreeted). Now that its done, he's finding that there are a LOT of shows that he can't get into. This is a magazine cover quality car, but because it's so new, it becomes an issue...

Don't take it personally, it's just one of those things. It's just something you have to check BEFORE you make your plans to attend somewhere...:thumbs2:

You've gotta limit it somehow. Years ago, it used to be a lot more limited. I remember when they did'nt let muscle cars in, this was the late 80's. Anyhow, I'm sick of going to show and seeing cars/trucks where there is no real value except the money they spent on a bunch of bolt ons, and the just sound fast but my mini van can out run them. :banghead3:

Thats only because your falcon (as a example) does,nt have the 20" bling blings on it that you sell.

    :)

Best to stay away from car shows like that, you would'nt want your wagons hanging around those kind of cars, no telling what kind of "tags" she'd be wearing:naughty:

    :rofl2:
