So, when my husband called me to tell me he picked me up a station wagon for 650.00, all I could think of was the movie Natl. Lampoons Vacation, lol! Then, I saw the wagon for myself...really? This car could not have been sold for so little!!? But, there it was, a 1990 Mercury Colony Park Station Wagon...wood grain paneling, and a light light beige/silver paint. It's just beautiful. We have a family of five (my husband, me, and three young children), so we needed something that would haul all of us comfortably. 90K original miles, the carpeting looks brand new in most of the areas. The seats are leather, worn, but no tears or rips. No cracks in the dash or steering wheel...power everything, even the windows (although front passenger door and main cargo door/trunk lock not working...two doors I cannot open). Third row seats look brand new (I have to figure out how to install them). Cold A/C. Perfect condition factory stereo (wonder if I can find cassette music anywhere...kids and their "CD" players...pffft ) Rides like it's floating on air :2_thumbs_up_-_anima I will post pics when I can get the camera to work! I joined this forum because I need to install the third row seating (my husband and brother in law are deal makers, but when it comes to putting stuff together, they normally look to me to do it...they are a bit 'handyman' challenged...but that's okay, because I am a bit 'housewife' challenged...haha...). So, I can normally figure this stuff out playing around with it, but I'm used to fixing stuff inside the house...never tinkered with car stuff before, so I figure I might need some help Very happy to have found you guys/gals.
Thanks Rancheronut Funny you said that because I told my husband he got me a "boat on wheels." I love it! I used to have a new Buick Century and I loved that car for the smooth ride, so I was hoping this wagon would be a lot like it, but wasn't sure what to expect for 650.00. I'm 35 and some friends were laughing at me that I was getting a wagon, until they saw it. I have a friend who has a newer explorer (Eddie Bauer edition) and she was in shock at the fact that it seemed more spacious (seating wise) than her SUV Easier in and out, etc. My little ones cannot wait for me to get that back seating in...they are already making claims to the seating arrangements I can't wait to take it on a road trip
"micisa": Mercury Grand Marquis Colony Park Wagons are nice !! Is it a GS or a LS wagon ? Edit: I was too late to notice under your forum name that it's a LS wagon. Click here .
Welcome micisa! I have a mint 1990 Colony Park that I absolutely love (black, red leather, 3rd row dual-facing seats). My daughter loves riding in the "way back" with her friends. Congratulations and looking forward to photos :2_thumbs_up_-_anima
to the wagon train, mic. Those are very nice wagons for sure. So, did the car COME with the third seat? OR...are you trying to fit one in there that you bought used? Pix would help with this project. Anyway, glad to have you and we are happy you like that wagon. Treat it well and it will serve you well for a very long time.
Welcome to our forum. You've got a good wagon there. Do the minor fix-ups that it needs, and it should be a good kid-mibile. Many of us were kids back in the 50's, 60's and 70's when the 'way-back' seat provided many childhood memories. It's good that your kids will be able to experience that as well. Just be sure to turn on the A/C for back there (direct vents up toward the headliner). It gets kinda warm in the summer........... Be sure to post up those pics when you get chance..... (and tell the hubby we're very polite to the distaff side, and we don't bite....) Marshall
and from a former owner of a Colony, you are just going to love it more and more:2_thumbs_up_-_anima Post some pictures when you can
Sounds like a great deal! Door lock solenoids are common failure points on these cars. Do all of your power windows work properly?
to our lil piece o heaven... congrats on the wagon...and tell the ol man...nice price!! the back seats should be pretty basic...they only go in one way i looked for some info...couldnt find any...sorry
Thank you guys/gals Yes, it actually came with the back seats, although there is absolutely no wear at all, so seems like they just took them out and stored them I really do hope I can get them in there without having to use any hardware. Wishful thinking, but I'm hoping everything I need is right there on the seats or in the back well where the seats go...lol!! All the power locks work except the front passenger and the trunk (they are locked and won't unlock). Also, the power windows work everywhere except for the back seat side windows...they 'kinda' work in that I have to manually push up on the window while someone pushes the window button (although I don't put them down in case they won't go back up) lol!! So, I'm thinking I need to get the power windows/door locks re-done? Funny story...so, I loaded my whole crew up in my wagon today to go to the library (which is a feat with a 6, 3, and 1 year old), got in myself, and turned the ignition....nothing. Tried it again...still, complete silence. I look over at the dash and apparently, I had left the lights on all day/night from when it was raining and dreary the day before...lol!! So, I have some adjusting to do I forgot that being an older car, there is no "ding ding ding" to remind you the lights are on...lol!! Oh boy, I was so mad for not remembering that I have also looked through the gallery and I LOVE all of your wagons!!! You guys/gals have beautiful wagons...I even have taken to the Falcon, which I have never seen before! So yea, I'm pretty hooked! edit: I also like the old Mercury colony I saw (i.e. 1950s) and the Mercury Turnpike. I'm in dreamland over having one of those some day
I'm so glad to see another female. I'm sure you can install the seats fairly easily. I'm doing most of the work myself on my wagon, it's not always easy but, the sense of accomplishment is worth it. I remember trips riding in the back of my mom's wagon. What great memories. It'll be great for the kids. But you know, somedays, I wish they had a partition right behind the back seat kinda like a limo, so when the fighting starts, push a button, and then you get peace and quite.
Welcome Micasa! If you ever do get a Mercury Turnpike, there won't be a 'ding-ding-ding' in it either. As for the rear windows sticking, Ford recommends a lubricant for the tracks which is really a silicone spray. Don't use oil because it will just attract road dust and clog it up. Just get the window down, and spray the vertical tracks, then move the windows up and down a couple times. If you feel brave, you could remove the door panel and use Lubriplate on the slider lever that the motor pushes up and down, but I suspect that the vertical side tracks are the issue. Su casa.
Welcome aboard. You're going to love your CP; I have an '87 and wouldn't trade it for the world. Well, maybe for a '78 Squire that was on here the other day!! Post some pix of your 3rd seat area. If it came from the factory with it, they should snap right in.
