    I have to say....that is a nice deal for someone, 19T. How's the rust and interior? Unfortunately....I can relate to the last few sentences of saf57's last post only too well. Probably even more than he can. :oops:

    As far as rust it only has rust in the front fenders and in the rear dog legs and a little in the front floors. The interior is complete but needs redone. I can send lots of pictures of anything anyone wants to see. I ask everyone to get the word out that it is for sale as I don't have the money or time to restore. I want it to go to a good home and to someone that will restore it. It's not everyday you come across something this rare and this complete that could actually be a number 1 show car. Give me a call 712-423-0208 Jason

    1957 Pontiac TRANSCONTINENTAL...!

    Hi guys - new here.

    The misguided person (I'll stop there) with the Transcontinental (Intercontinental) is just...hmmm.

    The trouble with trare cars IS...some of them get in the hands of folks like that, who talk to their local mechanic (or whoever) who then does a Google search and tells them there were "2 made" and the "other is in a museum" or something...and it's worth a fortune.

    This is probably the best example I have ever seen.
    Had to print the ad!

    ~~~~Oh well. car looks decent, and might sell. There are not many.
    "5 made"? Wow - GM had all kinds of money to tool up, then stop making them, eh?
    ~Tripled the sheetmetal? So it's bullet resistant? Or 3x as tall?
    :) :) (I think they mean tripled the stainless trim?).
    ~It's an incomplete 1957 Pontiac Star Chief "Transcontinental" 4-dr wagon. Rare, but with these you want them complete. The parts are just ridiculous to find. The only parts I find, people pulled off years ago, and are just now selling.
    No one is gonna part one of these out, if they have one now.
    Ex=I had to make a (cheap) deal on a whole, rusty one in a Mass junkyard, just to get all the lower 1/4 panel trim pieces from both sides. They were going to crush the car because there was nothing left other than that. So I will have a spare set.
    ~The SDakota wanted ad is me.
    ~If you want to find one of these, look for it to be all there.
    They had some stuff nothing else did.
    ~Roof rack (although the wagons-only brochure has the roof rack as an accessory part # for all wagons...I have never seen another anywhere, even in old junkyards that had the 1957 rack on it).
    ~Leather Upholstery
    (It was only made the last 1/2 of the year, but some unrestored ines
    I have seen HAVE a star embossed at the top of each seat, some do
    not).
    ~Front bench seat reclines on the passenger side.
    AND
    Has a headrest that pivots on 2 vertical arms.
    ~THey were all 2-seat, 6-passenger seating.
    ~Only came in a few of the 1957 Pontiac color combos, apparently.
    ~Window garnish mouldings are not painted, like other wagons.
    ~Cargo area stainless steel trim strips on the rear cargo area floor and
    around rear seat backs, like the Custom Safari 2-dr wagon.
    ~1/4 panel lower ribbed aluminum panels and trim similar to Bonneville
    Convertible.
    Thread stealer -enough.
    Only a few of us looking for them, I think!
    A friend sent me some pictures of that green one. Coo find...Yup, that one was a heck of a "save".
    Rare car - just that we all do need to be careful with the over-the top descriptions of what ita car could be - buyers (who know what to look for) will decide that. All I am saying.
    Ex:
    There was a SUPER, SUPER dry almost "rust free" TX wagon out here in the West that had never been off the road...sold. though it was the best I had ever seen (could BE a "#1 show car,, if there was such a term).
    Saw it back on ebay when the guy had to sell it - Paid a lot ('rust-free, too-good-to restore type $), then had had $1000s. of body work done, and was selling it again - parts of it replaced and in primer, all kind of out back together (was adriver, he had to unload it semi-disasssembled).
    Some car dealer had it, thought it was just a low-mile "show-worthy" car as is. I suppose the guy just wanted to repaint it, etc. and uncovered a lot of hiddne litle damage. Even on that car.
    Even that incredibly intact car was one that required quite a bit of body work, it turned out. And it came from a climeat with just a couple of " of rain a year. We never know.
    There is almost no "rust free" car, so that's silly.
