Hey, everyone. My name is Bryce and I'm 15 years old. So, yes, currently I only have a learner's permit. And with that, I have no reason to own my own car, so all I can drive is my dad's 2003 Focus sedan or my mom's 2005 Dodge Caravan. Yeah... Anyway, I've been interested in station wagons for such a long time. Out of boredom, I searched for a forum and found this place, so I decided to join. I don't have my own wagon to show off, but I can still dream of the ones to come. My birthday is December 8th, so by this time next year I'll be 16 and most likely in Driver's Ed, or even recently finished. I'm also planning to get a job this summer at my local Kroger to raise money for my first car. I've narrowed it down to three possible choices: 1. 1973 Toyota Corolla 2. 1966 Chevy Nova Or 3. 1971 Datsun 510 All wagons, of course! And yes, I'm aware that those are quite old for a first car and they'll probably break down a lot too much for a new driver, but I for one don't care. That's what I want, so that's what I'll get.
You are one lucky puppy Bryce. most of us grew up without the Internet, just pop, uncle joe and the neigbourhood eggspurt. And we're sure glad to have you here. The legacy goes on! Big welcome!
man....I don't think the breaking down part is your concern, but how much one of those wagons would cost! None the less, your getting a job, and want a cool wagon....good for you!! keep car clean..... even if it's a beater, girls like that and remember that allways get rid of your friends when a girl calls.....your friends will be there tommorow allways offer any gril in your school a drive if your...driving by them, be polite and courtious....did I mention forget your friends?
Thanks for the welcomes! Yes, I understand that it certainly is nice to know that the fad isn't dead just yet. But seriously, I don't understand how it could ever die. If given the choice, who would take this Over this or this over this? It's one of those things that just works. No matter what it is, it's always just right. They will live on forever. And Fat Tedy, haha! Yeah, I'm well aware of what to do for and with girls. In fact, there's one right now who I can see me with for a very long time in the near future. I just need to wait for her to stop being so insecure and say yes already. (Also, I'll stop using too many pictures now.) EDIT: Actually, the cost is not bad at all for the Corolla. The others, I will admit, can run very high depending on the condition, but they're not my first choice, so hopefully I won't need to resort to one. Also, my dad and I plan to restore a 1965 mustang. So we'll have painting supplies lying around. You know where I'm going with this. My plan is, since it will be a cheap car and there's no point in keeping it "normal", to do the A-team paintjob on the wagon. After all, it's only two/three colors.
to the wagon train, FS. Hey...I saw a Datsun like that on ebay not long ago that was cherry and I was surprised at how low it went. I like those DatWags. Keep up the good work toward your wagon....it's great to have a young man here interested in wagons. You will have to talk to MarCar....I believe he is 16 and owns a beautiful Mopar wag that was his grandpa's.
Oh, awesome! Yeah, I could see myself in one of those. But then again, it's hard to find a wagon I don't like.
Welcome to the wagon train. My buddy's son has been into the Datsun hobby, primarily late sixties and early seventies, since he got his drivers license twenty years ago. He did a cross country tour about 8 years ago in a 510 wagon, sleeping in the back when it was ugly out and tenting otherwise. He had an outstanding time. He currently has sedans and two doors only, no wagon in stock, but I know he's always looking. The issue with them is rust. All the smaller cars from across the pond of that era were potential rust hazards so make sure you check your potential purchase out very thoroughly before laying down your hard earned jingle. I can't speak to the Toyota or Honda or Mazda cars from that period in terms of restoration but I do know the Datsun crowd are very active. We have a few on the forums and their cars are really nicely done. One thought is the early nineties Saturn's. I think they started making them in 93 or thereabouts. There are also some members on the forum. They are great looking vehicles, more modern technology, and priced pretty decently. Glad you found us.
Hey, Jeffrey - a '74 RX4 was my first station wagon, back in 1975! Welcome to the forum, Bryce. Once you get the wagon bug you'll never let it go.... Those choices you picked out are good possibilities, but i would add another - a Focus wagon. Should be cheap to obtain, and they're very reliable. Marshall
Bryce. You've found the best place on the Net for all things wagonish. Its nice to meet a teenager who isn't obsessed with tricked out Hondas with big rims and bumpin' stereos. Those early 70's Toyota wagons are pretty cool, but if you are or will be over 5' 6", leg room can become an issue. Good luck finding the wagon of your dreams!
Thanks for the welcomes, everyone. Haha, I don't think I'd want a 90s Saturn or a Focus, though, even though I completely agree that they're nice cars. I prefer more boxy ones. I like the edges to be more defined. And, yes, I completely agree that most of my friends are morons, lusting after Honda Civics with hubcaps from Walmart and bolt-on body kits. It feels nice to know better.
