We have hagerty which I actually just spoke to on Friday. No driver age restrictions, mileage, or age of vehicle restrictions. Any "collector car" can be insured through them as long as it is garaged and you have a daily driver.
Also, I inquired about insurance on my cutlass because I currently only have liability on it and pay $600 a year for basically nothing. They currently don't insure non garaged cars, but are looking into a "pleasure vehicle" type insurance, that may cost more than collector, but the car needn't be garaged. So I'm on the list for whenever they do come up with that coverage.
It sucks because I'd be screwed if something happened right now. I've got thousands tied up in it and since it isn't worth much, I might as well not even get collision on it, book value is only maybe $2k or $3k.
So in the event of a collision, 1/2 of $3k is $1500, minus any real damage... Better off just not paying the extra $ a year.

Very interesting. Most collector car insurance policies require that the insured be 25 years old at least and won't allow the car to be driven by anyone under this age. In one case I saw an age limit of 30 or older. I saw on Hagerty's website that they will "consider" drivers as young as 18. I wonder how having a driver that young on the policy or being a driver that young buying a policy affects the cost.

I understand the frustration. Collector car insurance and towing something with your collector car do not mix. Regular insurance will not give you enough coverage, thus your stuck with something in between, that you know will not provide decent coverage for total loss, and will be more expensive.

It sucks. Now I have to pay $400 for an appraisal and then live with depreciation on that appraisal (that they won't tell me how much each year). A hunting I will go (for insurance that works).

Yay lol I don't like insurance companies at all lol geico (name drop I don't care) gave me a hard time when a truck blew his tire next to me tearing my trans pan off slightly i had to be towed and it had to be fixed but then the agent lady after the work was done looked and said she sees nothing wrong and that theyre not paying for anyything preventative maintenance... I kindly asked for the manager who being logical finally got things worked out I mean the truck company paid for it anyways geico just wanted to sit down and do nothing

One question that comes to my mind is, why would YOUR insurance company, Geico or whatever, even be involved? The other guy was at fault, so you deal with HIS insurance company.

The few times I've been involved in a fender-bender and it was the other guy's fault, my company was never even informed of the accident. I just dealt directly with the other guy's company and got my reimbursement through them.

I've got Progressive and have each wagon insured to a stated amount. I've looked into the classic thing, but they don't like the fact that I drive my wagons. I garage them, but I drive them every day too! It's actually not bad, price wise.. About $500 per year (each) for full coverage up to $10K.

You're pretty much talking regular insurance rates when you get to this level. You've got daily drivers after all. We've got coverage on my wife's '09 Nissan Altima from State Farm for about $600 per year.

By contrast, I've got coverage on my '67 Delta 88 and '73 Custom Cruiser from J. C. Taylor insurance for about $130 per year total for both. They must be garaged, driven only to car shows, parades, and occasional "touring," etc., etc. etc., but the savings is considerable.

From what I understand it applies to any accident. Now I suppose they could go after the other drivers insurrance company for some compensation

I couldn't live with those restrictions. I too drive the bag off of mine. It is just too much fun to not be able to take it out and head down the highway. Mind you, I guess you could pick up the rod run list and pick a show several thousand miles away...............

With mine I have no mileage restrictions. They just don't want you using it for daily transportation or running errands as tthat is when most accidents happen even if it is someone dinging your door at the grocery store.

I don't mean to make it sound like I drive mine 10 miles a year. For instance, I take the convertible out on most any nice day. But I'm always with it. I don't leave it in a parking lot and go into a store. Any time I'm out driving it, I call it "touring."

It's more than this. They don't want you leaving it unattended. A daily driver is the kind of car you drive to work in the morning and leave unattended in the parking lot for 8 hours. Then you drive it to the mall on Saturday and leave it out in the parking lot for a couple of hours.

It's not just the driving it back and forth to work, although this is certainly a significant part of it. But if it was the only thing, they wouldn't care if you parked it on the street at night instead of in a locked garage. The insurance company is not just worried about an accident. They're at least as worried about theft or vandalism.

I'll take the door dings if that's what it takes. I won't like them, but if I have to get a few battle scars, so be it. (Also why I won't ever have a $6000 paint job). I want the kids at the grocery store to see cool cars too. I've got some theft deterrent systems so it doesn't get stolen, and I'm not going to drive it to El Paso and park it next to the border, but the mall?...Sure.

I absolutely LOVE my drive to and from work everyday! How many people can say that? I actually look forward to Monday because that means I can drive my car again. I sometimes just wish I had a better route. But it is funny because I know the curves and I know my wagon. That '67 has such a great setup, I can pass people on this big 'O' curved on-ramp at 60+ and their jaws just drop open.

    Great stuff!

I was getting 'killed' in California with my auto insurance rates. Wife, myself have good records, but also two young daughters (one with real bad record), we were paying $3,400 every 6 months. Thought it would go down considerably when we moved to Oregon. It didn't. Had to split off the 'good' daughter who stayed in So Cal. We were still paying about the same, for one less car and one less driver. I've gotten comparison quotes before and always got prices in the same general range. This time I checked with Progressive and even with the one 'bad record' daughter, we got a confirmed quote for less than half of what we were paying. I couldn't believe it.......

A bad driving record for a young person will kill you. A really bad record will really kill you. How many cars were insured for the $6800 per year?
