    this week I replaced :
    steering gear (new)
    steering pump (new)
    pitman arm (new)
    idler arm New)
the rest of the arms and ball joints are working perfect without any play.
the problem is however that I have allmost no support of the power steering, and the steering wheel is not coming back after a bent(?).
I did check also the (return) control valve, it's working properly.
the oil level of the pump is ok.
what did I forget, or what is the problem here????????????:mad::banghead3::banghead3:

Did you bleed it too? Any air trapped in the system will do that. Leave one hose off at idle, while topping up the pump.

I did bleed the system by turning to the left and right stop a few times, the pump didn't make any noise after that so I think all air is gone.

So does the pump look like its churning the fluid through when the top is off? Even brand new pumps can be duds.

Norm, it's a GM pump and has a separate reservoir. So there is no churning.

T&C, he means the cap that's on a Ford pump reservoir, which is attached to the pump.

    I saw your correction Andy.

Yeah, you'll see the fluid moving quickly around inside the pump (churning). If its not, then the pump might be defective.

Should be the same principle. I would take the low pressure hose off while pouring more power steering fluid in. Did you use power steering fluid or transmission fluid? with a new steering gear box and power steering pump I would use Power steering fluid only. CHeck your lines too.

I did put ATF in the reservoir, and all of the lines (in/out) are new and leak free.

It helps if you have the front wheels off the ground to turn them.
I've read you may need to do this back and forth 20-30 times for some cars.

Every time I get a new Power steering Pump or Gear box I always check the instructions and I always see a warning not to use ATF because it will eat the new materials in the parts they are not built the same way they were in the 60's-70's. Check your instruction sheet to see if it has that warning.

It could be your suspension binding up if you replaced those parts.
If it's binds it won't let it return without help after turning corners and the like.
Or the box is bad, the pre-load adjustment screw wasn't adjusted correctly.
