Wow, I never even knew that GM sold Vauxhall in Canada. I don't know anything about this re-badged as a Chevy, Canadian Vauxhall Chevette, but the American version in my view was pretty crap-tastic for its day.

They actually made some of them in Oshawa, Ontario, until GM couldn't take the embarrasment of how quickly they rusted out in Ontario's rustbelt. They'd melt in about 2 years. GM got fed up of bodyshop repairs caused by bad sheetmetal. They made a Pontiac or Opel version too, but I can't remember the name. It was badged for the Pontiac/Buick dealer network up here.

My father bought an Explorer in 1994 as an alternative to a wagon. He wanted the 4WD for trips into the mountains for cross country skiing and snow shoeing. As for functionality, its still suitably wagonish.
Never had and major problems with it and nothing the warrantee didn't swiflty resolve.
The only complaint is that its acceleration is horrible. Really have to hit the gas to get rolling. It does 0 - 60 "eventually". :slap:

That's just one idiots opinion. Personally, I liked most of those cars listed. I owned 7 pintos. All but 1 of them were teriffic cars. No problems. The Timex of cars if you ask me. I also owned a Chevette. Used it for when I had to do work in the Bronx. A bit crude, but started every time and got me where I was going and back every time. The Edsal(s).... I remember them well and while I have no first hand experience with one, I think they're cool. The Ford Explorer was the #1 selling SUV for quite a few years, so I don't know what that guy is yappin' about.

The Gremlin was a GREAT selling car and I know some people that owned a few of them and loved them. The Pacer was fugly.....but it sold. And that's all AMC cared about.

IMO, the Yugo was the worst car built that I can reember.

For the life of me, I don't know why everyone thinks the Pacer is ugly.

Their glass is absolutely beautiful. Overall, it is a very nice design, IMHO.

I love them, have always loved them, and always will, no matter how many "worst" or "ugly" lists they appear on.

    David :)

EXPLORER!!!! im sick of this "people who have SUV's are evil" crap!

the explorer is one of the most reliable small SUV's ever made. when i was at the ford dealer i routinely saw explorers comming in for regular service with well over 200k on them.

the explorer is just villanized because it was a great truck. and caused people to buy them in mass.

I agree with you. The Explorer was and still is a GREAT SUV.

yeah, my dad had a number of explorers....actually at least 1 from every generation! he loved them. never once had a problem!

the tribant....well yes it was awful but it has a cult following! but how ingenious...a cardboard car...Truly recycleable!!!

hmm how about this for a few turds

1983 ford escort (only the 1983 though) snapping timing chains sent most to an early grave.

chrysler sebring 2.7 : blowing engines left and right...engines cost more to replace then the car is worth!

cadillac seville ht4100 silverfox filled us in on the history of that motor

original honda insight: a very fuel efficient car....for two?
skinny, low resistence tire and very light weight made it unruly on the highway

volvo bertone coupe: the anti-volvo. with an engine that proves "too many chefs spoil the broth."

the toyota prius: causes "im better than you" ego trips and eggs on
    "environoia"

Oh my what a chunk of **** that one was. Truely the worst engine I've ever owned.
A shame too because the those downsized Eldos and such were comfy cars.
I bought a low mile '84 when a few years old from the original owner who continued to drive it with a disintegrating camshaft until enough metal had circulated to ruin the bearings. After replacing the cam and redoing the bottom end it ran another few thousand miles until the crankshaft broke in two at the front rod journal. The only thing holding it together was the rods. After a VERY expensive new crank and bearings from Cadillac I discovered a bulletin from the reman engine industries association regarding 4100 crank refinishing that advised against welding up worn journals. Not sure where to place the blame for that.
Even when running tip top afterwards it was a wheezer barely able to pull the car up even a slight grade without a downshift.
The later HT4500 stayed together a bit better but always sounds like it's about to come apart.
A really sad decline from when Cadillac really was the "Standard of the world".
Rant over, sorry. Lots of bad memories brought back

I could NOT have said it better, ross. They were beautiful cars that rode and handled great and when you got in one and drove it you knew why Cadillac had that quality reputation. Unfortunately, the engine was just as you described. I saw many that did all the things you have pointed out. SOME did it driving out of the dealership when bought brand new! A real shame. The car itself was a beauty.

    Worst. List. Ever.

I was amazed to see that it was written by a Canadian "journalist". because the stuffed-shirt air of superiority reeks of Jeremy Clarkson or some other celebrated condescending Brit.

10% of the cars on that list belong there, the rest are an unimaginative amalgum of previous "ugly cars" lists and angry left-wing politics, as with the "evil SUV" message. I might make a hard copy of it to line the Kids' Guinea Pig cage.
