Another Aussie wagon fan...

I didn't mean to join another forum - but here I am (you can blame GMWAGN for that, after he included some pics of what is basically identical to ONE of the wagons I've got!). I think with all the negative reaction wagons get, it's great to find some people of a similiar mind...

The car in question (although mine's not quite in as good a condition as this) is perfectly represented by GMWAGN's picture -

Mine is exactly the same colour (green with a white roof), and bought it as my first car back in 1992 - and even has the venetians in the rear! The wheels in the pictures submitted by GMWAGN are different to mine as they are the later model HQ not HT (i.e. 1972 not 1969) and are a different PCD stud pattern so require new axils / discs to fit. My car currently has a 186ci (3.0L) straight six 'red motor' (basically a downsized version of the Chevy straight six from the same period) and column shifted 3 speed manual, none of which is staying.

It's been in storage for the last 10 years, although still registered with the original black & white number plates, and I am getting the hankering to get it back on the road again as my daily driver - although perhaps with something more of the 5.0L & 500hp variety as motivation, and some big dia bling bling's under all four corners...

In 1999 we bought a then brand new 4.0L 6cyl Falcon Futura sedan (which is when the HT got shelved), and after 12 months of cursing and swearing over the relative lack of room vs. the wagon, traded it in on a - also brand new - 1999 Falcon Futura wagon (had been sitting on the lot for 6 months unsold). Unfortunately, this car met it's untimely demise a few months ago when my wife lost control on a corner (dirt road) and wrote it off. Good car that - you can see a heap of pics of it and a bit of a story here -

Fortunately, we've already found a replacement and now have a 2002 Falcon wagon with factory LPG (does not have petrol at all - but with 116L and accurate fuel usage measurement via the trip computer, who needs it?) I'll put some pictures up of it when get time to go and take a decent set...

I don't know if you guys count 4wd wagons as being relevant to this site, but I also have a 1988 Ford Maverick - which will have some of you guys confused, because it has nothing to do with the American Maverick / Grenada. In this case, it's a rebadged GQ Nissan Patrol with 4.2L diesel and nearly 500,000kms on the clock - and I've just added a turbo and 3" exhaust to it!!! Amongst the many jobs I've set myself this year for it are rust repair, fitting a winch, fabricating a new custom bull bar, rock sliders & tubular rear bumper to protect the rear 1/4's. A long range fuel tank will also be a must - as I am preparing it so that we can do outback camping trips in it.

Tidy AU you had, I came across an AU3 Fairmont 5.0 wagon a few years ago but my wife can't drive a Falcon unless it has powerpedals. And we all know how hard THAT option is to find in a Falcon wagon, I've seen 1 BA1 Futura and 1 BF2 XT with that option.

 

What the heck are "powerpedals"? I think again we are separated by a common language.

Sorry, forgot to add the adjustable bit. Some Falcon wagons have adjustable pedals. Sadly they are VERY hard to find.

The wheels are off our previous wagon - which were off a AU XR6 before that. Yeah, although it may be rear wheel drive, Ford has spat in the face of it's wagon customers over here. The last manual gear box was available in 1998, the last XR wagon was 1996, the last V8 wagon was the AU3 of early 2002! They even dropped the luxury variants of the Falcon wagon! While the To top that off they stopped producing Falcon wagons in 2008, making a SUV called the "Territory" instead, at 400kg heavier... Sure, it's good - but came at a cost - the Falcon wagon...

 

Welcome aboard. Would you consider a trade? My 2002 VW Passatt wagon for your 2002 Ford Falcon wagon?

 

You would have to get used to right hand drive, cuda...no?

Shot from the same balcony, I moved the car a little further up the track next to the house so you can see the back. Yep - that's a tow-bar there, as in Australia we use our cars to tow all sorts of things - standard they are rated to tow 1.6 tonnes, but an uprated tow-bar is available which when used with electronic brakes on a braked trailer, increases the towing capacity to 2.3 tonnes...

Sorry - but neither front wheel drive or the cost of maintaining a German car excite me much! But thanks for the offer...
