And as requested, here are the T-Birds.. It's never a problem when I'm asked to show off my babies. What's the purpose of all time and money we invest in them if we can't drive 'em, enjoy 'em and show 'em off! The Dusk Rose '57 is an older restoration. We bought it in 1990 from Boulder, Colorado and drove it as-is for a of couple summers. My dad and I started the restoration in '92 (frame on, but down to bare metal) and finished it in time for my wedding in '95. It is a solid car and it is restored correctly back to its original colors, but it will never be much more than a really nice driver because I drive it. My '66 convertible was restored in the 80s and I have driven it, worked on it and improved it since I bought it around '97. It really needs a new paint job and a trans by now and that is on the schedule for this winter. The '66 hardtop came from Oklahoma. I bought it last summer and I trekked 1,100 miles out there and back to bring it home because a.) it was cheap, b.) it had a 428 and c.) because it was dead solid. The paint is baked but there is no rust and no dents. We just don't get that in Michigan. The parchment interior is even nice. Once the convertible is painted and put back together, this car is going to be sweet. Thanks for letting me stray outside the lines. Now, back to the wagons...
Welcome TBirdman! I was just up in Toledo & Detroit this week. I have an '89, and it has held up very well with over 200K miles. Enjoy that Ford ride.
I checked and it looks like the ad for this car that was on Craigslist in San Francisco last month has expired. If the dealer still has it, then it will probably show up again on Craigslist soon. When I posted the link to the ad I called it a Vistabird or Thundercruiser .
Haven't seen that woody T-Bird before, Brian. It's certainly original. The 2-tone green Vista Bird is currently for sale. You'll find it on Craig's List in the San Francisco area. I believe the seller is asking around $14k. I agree with you that the interior on it is horrible The outside, although seemingly well-done, doesn't look good to me. I don't like the fact that it's a GM wagon section on a Ford. It should be all Ford. I think a section from a '60 big Ford would have looked better.
wow, Krash...I couldn't disagree more. I think that body looks factory. While it's true it isn't all Ford and maybe wouldn't appeal to a Ford purist I think the lines and concept of the car is near perfect from an exterior body design point. It has perfect balance and that's saying something for how it evolved.
